I guess this would be the right forum *shrug*

I don't like my microphone to be on the time. Most programs/games are sensible and allow you to bind a key you can press when you want to transmit your voice, so it's not on all the time. Some programs don't have this feature (ahem, borderlands). Is there software out there that will let me use a 'press to talk' key from my desktop so I can still use press-to-talk even if the game doesn't have the option? Sadly I'll still have to listen to other people who have their mics on all the time, listening to their every breath and keystroke. And the occasional...

if you have a serial port, there is one pin you can ground out and along with a small software program, it will switch your mic on and off. i cant remember exactly where the info is at, but its at mp3car.com

look in their forums, they do this all the time for voice recognition.

The standard lingo for that is a push-to-talk microphone. That technology is decades old. Used it on my ham radio back in the 50s. The simplest solution is to use such a mike connected directly to the mic input port. You may have to use a standard phone jack to mini-jack adapter.

This is a hardware issue, so the correct forum would be General Hardware.
