Fern: check your records-I can just about guarantee you don't have your ORIGINAL birth certficate-that's a document filed with the state. And its these certified copies that the birthers are getting hysterical about. Also see my post earlier in this thread-my state (at least) routinely destroys the original paper birth certificate after they have been copied into the state records, those copies becoming the official state record. At best you have a certified copy.

Very much of these birther's theorizing is based upon a tiny shred of knowledge which they hopelessly distort. It's like the old story of the five blind men describing an elephant.

Is it the one that is notarized with a raised/textured stamp? I know I used to have that, but I believe it is long gone.

This discussion is just stupid, who knows how these things were entered, changed, transferred, entered again,... over the years. The only thing that matters is that this is certified by the state and they back it up.

That's a certified copy. You can get another one for $10-20 or so. I always advise people to order them now and put them somewhere safe, like a lockbox. If you wait until you need it immediately you will get racked over the coals for express fees, etc. in the neighborhood of an additional $100 or so-it's a racket.
