Preserving Fireworks for the next year...... Any tips?

I have tons of fireworks leftover from this year and was wondering if there is actually a shelf life for this kind of thing? If you keep them inside a closet within' your house for example, will they keep 'till next year?

Any tips or is it just a matter of placing them in a paper bag, keeping them away from moisture & heat?

cool/dry place.

They'll be fine for years.

I always keep huge boxes of fireworks on hand. Dry more important than cool.

How do you not blow off $200 in a single year? Some buddies and I spend many times that amount every year. the sad thing is this year I went tp WI myself this year, and the guy not only remembered me, but asked where my buddies were. Granted we have been going yearly since '98 and always spend a ton, but geez, the guy treats us like we are his only customers.

Pilgrim, you've been around here as long as me but do you actually read posts before you reply? I said that I purchased $200.00 at 50% off. I also stated we did not do much this year because of family. The $400. worth is in a closet at the moment **LOL**

I only spent $200.00 because the guy was unloading and said I could have anything half off. This 4th though, we spent like $20.00. A few bottle rockets, crackers, etc.
It will be better next year 🙂

I read it, and comprehended it. 😛 Let me put it to you this way, I don't have a closet big enough. In '98, which was the first year we went up there we filled an explorer and 2 minivans. (We were young and stupid) We took the seats out of the 2 minivans and put them in the explorer. We bought so much that we have lifetime memberships in the 'club' that Xtreeme has; called 'Pyro Club' which you have to spend > $500 a year to be in. Thankfully, there were only 6 of us, so we all got seats on the way back 😛

We are much less stupid now, since we were 'visited' quite a few times on the 4th that year by the local constabulary. Now, we try to keep it right at $600 of 'mix and max buy 1 get 1 free' as that is slightly over the amount required to get their grand finalle kit of cakes free.

Evadman----- Alright, here's a question no one here has answered in the past......

I remember buying a bunch of rockets (THUNDER ROCKET) that made a HUGE BOOM. I purchased these at a stand at the IN/MI border.

The rocket made a big boom and that's it. No sparkle crap, just a BOOOOOM! They cost about $20.00 per and the guy we bought them from said they were the equivilent to a 1/4 stick of dynamite.

2 years ago, my brother and I got a 55gal steel drum barrel, broke the stick off the rocket and put it under the barrel with the wick exposed. We also put like 100 lbs of John Deere tractor weights on top of the barrel.
We lit the fuse and BOOM! **LMAO** That thing went 4-5ft in the air and put a huge dent in the side. Also blows 3x 5gal plastic buckets put together to shreds too!
When set into the air in rocket form, they produce a LOUD BOOM! Not a pop mind you like these wimpy bottle rockets out there!!! Trust me, people will notice when you let these fly.

Anything out there you can recommend that will duplicate this?

I found some year old fireworks once. I think they were too dry because the fuses would burn at 10 times normal speed. If a normal fuse is 3 seconds, these would pop in .3 seconds.

You might want to store them in air tight containers to prevent them from getting too dry.

Not legally. If that were equal to a quarter stick you wopuld be in the hospital having steel being taken out of your face. The amount of powder is regulated for class C fireworks/firecrackers, and none will do that. The best you can do with a Class C (1.3G) is 50 mg of powder for a fire cracker, and 3x that IIRC for an aerial. You could get the noise of a 1/4 stick in a class B display firework but you are not supposed to be able to buy those.

IIRC, a stick of TNT is about 300 grams. It would take about 2000 of the maximum charge aerials for one stick, or 500 for a quarter.

Monel could probably narrow it down better, but I haven't seen him post recently.

<edit>
Actualy, it is 130 mg max for an aerial. Linky here. Also states that an M-80 used to have 3 grams of flash powder.
