Sure the Rams won on the strength of their 2nd and 3rd string teams. The 1st couple of sets went horrible for the 'New Look' defense. That drive by Peyton and Co. for a TD in the first 2:30 off the strength of a recovered on-side kick re-enforced the old addage "the more things change, the more they stay the same" in my book.
The Rams 1st string D vs. the Colts 1st tring O was a horrible flashback to the door-mat defense that has plagued this team ever since the end of "The Greatest Show on Turf". They got eaten alive! Follow that by a 1st O drive that stalled not far into Colts territory to bring out Indy's 2nd string offence. Thankfully our 1st string was able to shut them down . That brought on the Rams 1st string for a 2nd run that stalled on 3rd and 9 in the red zone after Bulger overthrew Isaac Bruce in the Endzone. That ended up with a Rams FG for three...
Which was then answered by a 63yard kickoff return. The whole thing honestly looked like a re-run of the Ram vs. Take-Your-Pick game last year.
In contrast, there were some bright spots on offence by way of Steven Jackson breaking for some big plays early on and Ritchie Incognito seems like a good fit.
The Defense, while weak against the Colts starters. Did make some good plays and were lock-tite while flying all over the field and blitzing the hell out of Jim Sorgi the rest of the night and showing good signs of promise under Jim Haslett's guidance. Lets hope things continue to improve.
The rest of the game went OK as the scrubs from both sides battled it out and the Rams came away with the win. But hey, it's preseason football which is mostly much to do about nothing.
My $.02
