I'm tired of squinting while driving! What is the best place to get prescription sunglasses? First choice right now is Eyemasters, since I really don't know that there is a difference between these places.

Do you live near a Costco? I have found they have pretty good prices in their optical department. Frame selection is not always the greatest, but it's decent and the prices are lower than any retail outlet I know of.

I assume you cannot wear contacts?

Seven years ago, I was in the same boat as you. Blind as a bat w/o glasses, but can't see due to the sun. Take off glasses to put on sunglasses, can't see a damn thing, but at least I'm not squinting.

Yeah but they are a pain in the ass. Plus glasses provide eye protection :).

I work at Eyemasters and I reccommend them......you can tint any frame in the store, so technically, any frame could be sunglasses.....I reccommend getting polarized lenses, for they block out horizontal glare realy well for all your driving needs....

Eyemasters: the one hour place..

get some photochromic lenses, when you are under the sun, these lenses senses the uv light, and turn dark.

I had those. They were pretty good but I didn't like the bluish tint. Plus they aren't polarized.

Okay I will go to Eyemasters. That's where I got my glasses. Does the tint come in varying levels?

At eyemasters, we don't have levels of tint. If you get polarized tint, those are pretty dark. the basics are black or brown polarized...I think you can order other colors(including g-15(kind of like the ray-ban colors), and maybe blue too).

and if you want regular tint, those can pretty much come in any color you want in any darkness you want.
there arent really "Levels." We just say 1 for light, 2 for medium, and 3 for dark....

Someone listed this website for glasses:

http://www.39dollarglasses.com/

I ordered a pair of glasses w/tint, and it was pretty inexpensive. Whether I'll be able to see out of them when I put them on is another thing. But it's worth a look-see...

I simplely bought a pair of clip-on sunglasses for my driving, and leave the clip-ons in the car. Works great! Spent alot less money, too.

Then again, my glasses and cost me $400! :Q Due to my poor vision. I can't see spending another $400 on tinted glasses.

After posting that I realized that polarized only comes in one tint anyway. I'm getting polarized definately. It's a pain in the ass driving 150 miles with the road glaring.

good choice, polarized is the *only* way to go for sunglasses! i only wish they had something similar for regular glasses... they have that coating stuff, but i heard you have to clean your glasses a lot with that.

Anti-reflective coating. THAT'S a Godsend! Yes it makes your glasses "attract" more dirt. Big deal. I still only wash my glasses whenever I take a shower and never have a single problem with being dirty.

the way I look at it........it doesnt really attract more dirt.............with teh anti-reflective coating, it makes your glasses so "clear," that any tiny smudge or lint will be visible on the lens. So really, you still have the same amount of dirt on your lenses, but now, you see them more clearly...

eh i don't think so... the coating itself is slightly sticky is it not? hard to believe that a somewhat dust does not stay on a slightly sticky surface more than a not-sticky surface.

Honestly, the AR coasting isn't a Big Deal.

I wash my glasses as often as I did before, and never have an problems with dirt blurring my vision.

Clip-Ons were a cheap alternative to me, but if you have the money prescriptions lenses are the way to go.

Just filled a prescription for sunglasses at an eye clinic that took my insurance. In the end, they were still a couple bucks higher than Walmart. I got polarized glass lenses installed in my old frames for $115.00 using the insurance. Walmart would have done it for $110.00 without the insurance. I threw them a bone, since they gave us such wonderful personalized service!
