is this going to cost an arm and a leg? man. i want get these Oakley X-metal Penny Sunglasses. they already cost an arm and a leg @ $290 (techb@rgains has a $30 off $200 coupon so will make use of that).. but are the prescription lenses specialially designed/made or are is it jus the normal stuff that all optomitrists offer?

Well, I just bought new glasses two weeks ago. My frames were 199 and the lenses were an astounding 225. But I got all the options, like AR coating, lightweight, etc. They said that they could put any lenses into any frames, but you would have to pay for the lenses and the price would depend on what options you would get, like polarized, lightweight, etc. Also, I'm not sure about Oakleys. That page has a link to find an authorized Oakley prescription dealer though.

I have been wondering about the same thing, wouldn't mind a pair of oakleys, but I can't go without my glasses, and I am not interested in dealing with contacts soo...

yikes.. now i'm afraid to even ask..

not sure if i want to know.. i bet those oakley's require some special lenses that jack the price up even more.. eh. i might just give them an authorized prescription dealer a call on the weekend.. scary to think that the lenses could cost more than the frames though.. that would set me back $500+ just for a pair of glasses (though they look sooo cool) :Q

when i got my ray bans, they said that the frame could not require an extemely curved lens. i dunno if this is really the case, or just lenscrafter's crappiness.

I bought a pair of Smith shades a few months ago that have prescription lenses in them. They cost me about 150 (with a $150 insurance deductible, so they are normally around $300.

As already mentioned, the curvature of the lenses is what it really comes down to. From what I was told, there are very few Oakley frames that can have prescription lenses put into them. If the lense is too curved, it will throw off the "prisms"...or whatever you call it on the prescription, which will basically make it blurry.

Hope this helps...

Not all Oakleys can be made into prescription glasses.

If you go to the website it will tell you which ones support "Oakley Rx" prescription lenses.
Unfortunately none of the uber-cool ones such as the Pennys or Juliets can be made prescription.

What I want to do is cut the arms of a pair of sunglasses, and attach the arms to the arms of my glasses, making a kind of clip on.
