How much is EE is faster over Prescott with Same speed.
We are talking about 3.2GiG
Is worth upgrading from Prescott to EE ?

but practically will be faster or at the worst condition, about equal but it depends which EE you are talking about, older versions may not be that great for somethings

I still have a P4 EE 3.2 in socket 478, in my secondary machine, and it will annhilate any socket478 prescott chip there is, at least in my experience it did.

I upgraded from a 3hz prescott to the EE chip back when that was my main machine, and it was a night and day difference, across the board.

How much are they going for nowadays? Its not going to be like going from a prescott to a c2d, but you should definately see a speed increase.

Good to know
Please tell me Why is EE is faster?.
because of L3 cache ? or what ?

The only applications it will be faster in are cache dependant programs. I believe the EE you are refering to for socket 478 is based on the Galitin core, which was bascily a northwood with L3 cache, so non-cache dependant apps it will still be slightly faster, since clock for clock northwoods were faster than prescott. It will run cooler than the Prescott at the same speed.

EDIT: Just one other note, depends on how much you have to spend on this thing if it's worth the "upgrade" or not, I don't think it's going to be drasticly faster, and socket 478 is pretty much a dead platform, so there could very well be much much better upgrade options if you were planning to spend $1000 on this cpu.

because of L3 cache ? or what ?

The 2 MB of L3 cache is the only thing that separates it from a regular 3.2 GHz Pentium 4, so yes.

Well, that and maybe the placebo effect.

he won`t explain because he has no idea.
I have the 3.2 EE currently. The 2MB L2 cache is a tremendous advantage over just a regular 3.2!! But the price hardly is comparable!!

Just to add to that, the EE chips were and still are a rip-off. I checked ebay a few weeks ago and like all best of the line chips (1.4ghz pIII, 1.4ghz thunderbird, 3200+ AXP) they are overpriced for what they do. Technically it aint best of the line, as there was a 3.4 version too but the 3.2 will still be overpriced.

Even though L1 is512K compare to 1MB with Full Speed. Plus I have notice Prescott have SSE3 but EE does not ?

I think you are refering to L2 cache, not L1. The L2 cache of the northwood was smaller than that of prescott, but also had much lower latency. Northwood based EE's did not have SSE3, but there were also prescott based EE's that did have SSE3.

wouldn't it be cheaper and faster to grab a conroe e6400 or e6600 and a new mobo? I looked online and it's still damn near impossible to buy an EE for less than $600, and you could easily afford a $225 e6400, a $140 gigabyte DS3, and 2GB of DDR2-800 for like $200. you'll get a much faster system with better features (CPU will have SSE3 & 4, 64-bit extensions, etc.).

Ok Now I am confuse
Please tell me how many kinds of EE out there for 478 Socket ?
I thought it only had ONE kind ?
