How big is the heatsink?

it's like smaller than the size of my palm, kind of like most northbridge heats you find today

The heatsink on my nForce 4 chipset reaches at least 135 F and I have no stability problems. I wouldn't worry.

there's nothing wrong with over 100F. that's only a little over 37C. some PC parts run fine at over 60C, or 140F.

yeah they use paperclip-similar made clips very sturdy and if you're suggesting water cooling, forget it because I am not going down that path for a 2003 CPU & technology motherboard.

what's up? yeah what do you say, also anyone?

Are you going based on how hot it is to your touch, or are you actually measuring it in some way? If its the former, then you're probably just thinking its much hotter than it is (comparitively to what you think it should be), but if its the latter, or you're actually getting stability problems then get a fan to blow on it.

Remember its a small passively cooled heatsink, so its probably going to be hotter to your touch than the much larger heatsink with a fan blowing on it like on your CPU or video card.

If you have proper ventilation in your case, you should be fine. Just make sure to keep cables clear of it so that it has some room to breath.

What little I know. ASUS uses four clips on the NB HS and Albatron uses two.

http://www.allelectronics.com/ >heat sinks. HS-115 has two clips, comes with TIM & foam boarder around the TIM. I would clean all that off, lap the sink base, install with good paste and add a low speed 40mm fan with four dots of silicone adhesive.

I would consider adding a HS-130 to the SB, it comes with frag tape on the base.

All Electronics has free shipping on all orders >$25 until July 4th. Thier basic shipping is $6. I bought several of both these sinks, the quality is VG. The HS-115 I would consider close to a Zalman passive, just not as tall and with a thinner base. They have some 40mm fans sold in pairs that are 5V. They are not quiet but far from loud.
