Prescott dual cores overloading phase change setups

as long as you use single thread applications it works like a normal prescott. like super pi, 2dmark 2001 etc. But when there are 2 threads, like POV ray, CINEBENCH etc. you can hear the PWM's scream for mercy.

This shouldnt be suprising. Their die-size is horrbly large. Once Presler arrives they will become more....tolerable

That's because they screwed up. With .65nm they claim they will reduce leakage by 50%.

It is funny that AMD's 90nm dualcore uses less power and produces less heat than the Prescott single core 90nm.

Do you really expect them to come out and tell people there might be a problem? After all, they still won't really admit that the Prescott is a problem.

I have confidence they wont repeat the prescott.....I think the die shrinks are not as routine as they once were and that means there may not be the perfect results we all imagine come with a die shrink. It will remain to be seen how much headroom there will be to keep driving the dual core architecture until the dothan based chips will reverse the mhz trend....

Yeah....Even with the delays with prescott they didnt come out and say " Problem" but then again what company would>? I think they said " The thermal tagert has changed".

All the best to them, even if half of what some of the guys on here and screaming about is true (great move to 65nm, amd's in trouble etc) then surely how can I not jump back over to Intel

Last time the didn't just do a shrink, they made other changes as well. The extra pipelines, the disabled EM64T, the double pumped ALU's, double the cache...had they just done a shrink of northwood, I think it would have turned out a lot better. I think the 65nm shrink will go a bit better, since there won't be any major changes to the design, and the improved strained silicon should theoreticly help reduce the leakage.
