Prescott 2.4A - Good OC Chip?

Recently Fry's was selling 2.4A boxed Prescott along with ECS 848P based motherboard for $119. People have reported to get 3.2 to 3.4ghz easily on these chips at stock voltage. What do you think?
 
2.4A are good.
2.8A are better.

2.8A's have been incredible overclockers...

the highest ever obtained for a p4 has been with a 2.8A (5.5 ghz)
 
That's an awesome deal. What do you mean "recently" I'll pick one up tomorrow if it's still going on.
 
I just broke in my new 2.8 Prescott 1mb with HT. Running 3650 on air. RAM was the key. Mushkin "Special" 222 is what did it.

I was going to return/sell the combo I bought from fry's, but after reading many reviews about getting the 2.4a to 3.4/3.7 on air w/ default voltages... I am keeping it.

Now, I'm looking to pick up some really good memory sticks that can do 250MHz plus... Any recommendations. (BB and fry's have the Kingston hyper-x pc4000 512mb for 129.99, but I think its 3-4-4-8.

im running 1:1 (400 mhz) with Kingston HyperX PC4000...

for some reason i can't get 4:5 to work at all (500 mhz the ram's rated speed).

Oh, I see. The 2.4A has an 18x multiplier and at 200Mhz FSB, this puts it at 3.6Ghz. Hmmm, nice overclocking chip...
 
I know this chip doesn't have HT, but how much does it make a difference? I'm about to pick one up, but I've been eyeing the 2.8E. I do alot of multitasking, surfing, watching OGMs, ripping mp3s. My 1.8a@2.6 runs on the edge all the tiime. How much will HT help when you pulling 3.6ghz really??!!!

Forget the kingston. PC3200 Corsair couldn't hit 250 in my system, but this mushkin did easily with no overvolting.

I wouldn't expect every DDR400 chip to run at DDR500. I certainly wouldn't count on it. I have a gig of HyperX PC4000 and run it at least DDR520 (would certainly go higher, my chip limits me). If you aren't planning on going above 250FSB, I would look into some really good PC3500/3700. If you want to try to above 250FSB, you will want to go with PC4000+. HyperX is a good deal, yes it runs @ 3-4-4-8, but higher RAM doesn't need tight timings, and nobody even has a CL2 PC4000 stick, so don't worry about the timings.
