Hi everyone! I have just joined up, and this is the first time I have ventured into BB'ing (always scared to try it out - desperation does strange things). Hope I follow the prescribed etiquette and protocols and dont get shot down for it. Have a Presario 6000 series, Win xp home. When selecting "Turn off" the system just reboots. Unable to shut down with out keeping the power button depressed.. Have disabled "Auto Restart" in Start up & Recovery settings. BIOS settings set to standard. Have tried clean booting, then shutting down. Also tried shutting down while in safe mode. Will look for BIOS updates in a while. Meantime..Any one have any ideas?

Again - not sure what the protocols are for informing members that the question being posted has been solved, but I have found the solution to my problem. The BIOS setings had been changed (possibly by the multiple virus infections the system had {belongs to a client}). Resetting the BIOS to standard fixed it. Have not had time to go through & find out what the change was in the BIOS. Will inform you when I find out. Cheers.

The problem lay in the BIOS. When I enabled "POST Messages" and "Safe POST", the system would not shut down normally, and would reboot. However, even after updating the BIOS and when disabling these settings, the problem remained. Not sure why. The only solution was to reset the BIOS (removed CMOS battery). Hope this will be of some help to someone. Over & out.
