When I install a 3COM 3c509b card in this Presario 5000 the computer running Win98SE wont complete a shutdown. There are no open IRQ's and it is currently sharing IRQ 3 with the Video chip set. Has anyone solved this issue? Only Irq's 11 and 5 can be shared with the card which are sound card and USB controller respectively.

sharing an IRQ is not a big concern with a NIC, I have personally my NIC and soundcard sharing IRQ 10 at one time, then I figured out my TV tuner was also on 10 and didnt like it, so I had to diable one COM port to get the TV tuner on its on IRQ.

Here is what you can do in the BIOS:

uncheck assign IRQ to USB
uncheck IRQ to AGP - unless u require it.

get the damn shutdown patch from microsoft.. that is preventing Win98SE from shutting down - I would do this first.

personally I wouldnt bother the IRQ sharing between the NIC and the soundcard.. if they are happy with eachother .. leave them alone.

as for the IRQ sharing with video card, just move the NIC one slot over away from the video card. that if you got a slot available..
