I have a PC with Windows 2000 Server installed which stops at the message "preparing network connections". The (progress bar moves but i don't get in windows.). I have unplugged the network cable, disabled the onboard network card from the bios with no result. I can only get into safe mode, but after about 15 minutes. Any help?

Is this machine a domain controller (is it running AD)? How long do you wait for it? Does it have a wireless adapter?

Unfortunately, i can't answer your first question right now, because i am not near the PC, but the same delay occurs even if i disconnect the pc from the network and disable the network adapter. I think it was more than 30 minutes. The adapter is not wireless.

Well try this. Boot into Safe mode with no network support and disable your network adapater and then boot up and see if you still have the delay.

Is this machine a member of a domain?

If so, boot into safe mode and make sure the network connection is configured to point to a domain controller for primary DNS.
