Preparing for the SAT. Advice?

I am a junior in highschool right now. To those that have taken or are taking the SAT test, how did you prepare for it? Did you take a class, study from a SAT prep book? SAT classes are expensive, collagebard.com (the makers of the sat) have study guides and practice tests you can buy, which are pretty cheap. How did you guys prepare for the SAT and how well did it help you/improve your score. Thanks!

I didn't. You can try reading books and doing practice tests, which will help with the way you think on taking a test. As long as your thinking is somewhat logical, you can handle it. Remember to bring your calc though.

Also, take the ACT, since some people think differently. I got a 1220 on the SAT, vs a 31 on the ACT. Big difference.

I should have taken the ACT.. probably would have scored much higher in that, according to what I've read about it.

Just get some rest the night before, eat a good breakfast. 🙂

You can take a prep-course or you can buy books that have practice tests. Your SAT score is not the sole determing factor for your college application. A high score helps but having a good gpa, a good amount of extracurriculars, and some volunteer service helps just as well.

IMHO it seems like they're now putting more emphasis on everything else and the SAT not so much.

good idea, im gonna register for the april act now.

Carry a spare brain in with you to use when you take the test, as the one you have now will burn up while you're taking the tests.
No - don't worry, everything you ever needed to know, you knew before you started this thread.

Exactly, I never prepared. Then again my score wasn't that high either: 1270

Never took the ACT so I don't about it.

If you really care, get a prep book and work out of that. I knew a kid who jumped from the 1200's to the 1500's after doing that. But, first take a practice test so you know where you are. I scored a 1440 on my SATs without doing a thing, and I didn't bother to do anything because that was fine for everywhere I wanted to go with my GPA.
