Be prepared to answer who what when where why
who - tell me about yourself
what - what skills do you have relevant to this position
when - when did you learn these skills, when did you leave positions
where - where did you gain experience, i.e. examples
why - why are you having this conversation with me, the interviewer, i.e. why are you looking for a job

Don't have canned answers necessarily, just answer these to yourself so you naturally can answer if someone asks

If these 5 things line up with what they want then you'll get to the next step most likely

Dont do it from the parking lot of your job. Everyone knows you are interviewing for something outside your current employer. Drive to a parking lot down the street.

If you pace around like I do, go to an open space away from work.

- Prepare a list of things you want to talk about (pertinent to the job)
examples: projects you've worked on, extra roles that you took on
- Prepare a list of good questions to ask them
examples: does the company provide ongoing training for employees to gain new skills > new responsibilities; at the end, ask if they have any reservations that you can clarify for them
- Take notes
- Do not talk negatively about your current job
- Let the interviewer bring up any talk about salary

Good luck!

I interviewed on the phone for a job in the breakroom of my current employer. Don't even care.

Only advice I will give you, if you are calling from a wireless phone make sure it's charged. If you are calling from you cell, stay in a spot you know you get good service.

Hope and pray you don't get the audio feedback delay or the "I just heard myself say that" issue. It's completely distracting to me.
