Preparing a 1.6a for the Sunflower

I've got the retail fan and 1.6a chip new and still in the plastic, and a new AVC Sunflower. I have to say the Intel retail fan looks pretty hefty, but I've spent the $ for the AVC plus the AS3 already. Near as I can tell there is nothing on the bottom of the AVC or on top of the Intel chip (sorry to sound dense but it's the first time I've seen one). Should I attempt to clean these in anyway prior to putting the Artic Silver on the chip? I've read the Thermal Basics page, and I'm ok with using acetone, but if they are both brand new and I'm careful, shouldn't I just be able to apply and go?

Thanks!

Yes you'll be OK, but I would at least get some alchohol and clean them off just in case someone in production touched them and left some oil from their finger tips. But you probably don't need to since machines pack all that stuff. But I try never to leave anything to chance.

I agree a little rubbing alcohol works as well///the avc will come with protective tape though...

squirt a little as3 on the middle of the chip and spread with a old credit card evenly...this will smooth it out....I like to apply another thin layer to the bottom of the heatsink as well....

My temps with retail hsf w/ thermal pad 1.8@2.4ghz 1.65v = 46c idle 60c full (during prime)

with avc hsf and as2 1.8@2.4ghz 1.65v = 38c idle 46c full (during prime)

Mostly I think the fan and AS will help in the load temps...the 2700rpm fan just doesn't cut it when ocing .15v over stock and 600mhz faster
