Ok, so my fiance leaves tomorrow for Ireland and I'm looking to get a pre-paid calling card. I was just going to go to Walmart and pick one up before a friend notified me they last about 45min for a $20 card because they are intended for in-state use.

Now, I assumed on a 500min card I would not get 500min but I wasn't expecting it to be THAT bad. Anyways, he said the radio told him to buy them online but he didn't know where. So, do any of you guys know? I found this site:
http://www.callingcards.com/sh...72D8468593B7E7FFA2C1EB

And I picked From Ireland to US (cellular) because she will be caling my cellphone. As you can see the price per min varies WIDELY which is what concerns me. Obviously the cheaper the better but I don't want her to have to take 30min just to be able to get a call out. All advice would be appreciated except "go to an internet cafe" I already told her that but she wants a calling card. Whatever.

Oh yeah, and what does she have to dial to get the U.S. any idea? I've only been out of the country once and I didn't really call back. Thanks again.

maybe she should just buy a card from IRELAND? rate to cell phones are typicallly higher, but she can go to the local flea market/china town and ask the vendor what is the best card for calling a US cellphone.

I think it would be much easier to buy one in Ireland if she is calling from Ireland to the US. I haven't been to Ireland, but every other country I've been to sells international calling cards at every other corner store... and for cheap. Give her the money and tell her to buy one when she gets there.

Yeah that's probably a better idea but I know she'll never go for it. She isn't going for pleasure, it's a school function and she is a chaperone so likely she will not be able to hit a corner market. :-/ I was thinking of just getting a $20 card and then having her pick one up there.

You sure the cards you get on this side of the pond is for incoming calls? Normally they are outgoing, ie, you call Ireland, and not the other way around.

Most calling cards from places like AT&T, Sprint, etc. will have local access numbers in pretty much every country. I have a corporate account so I don't have to worry about it anymore, but I used to just get AT&T calling cards since they have local access numbers for any country I'd want to go to.

interesting, did not know that since I never looked at those cards. Too expensive for my taste.
when I went to Washington DC, I just bought one from here and called the 1800 number, it was still a lot cheaper than calling from my hotel room in the Mayflower.

Yes, I stayed at the Mayflower, it was a convention, no I did not order escort service.

She'll be there for 5 days. I would suggest she just not call if she can't figure out but omfg would I get owned. I looked at the AT&T website for rates but I have to have a calling card first aparently wtf is that? Buy the card THEN we'll tell you how many minutes it's worth!!
