I don't care about CPU wars, both intet and amd are out to get our money. I just happen to like dual systems, and have been waiting for amd solutions as cheaper alternative. But with such outrageous pricing, I'll probably just get 2*1Ghz Pentium III.

It's got dual NIC's and 2 SCSI chans, It's not a Emachine board, It's for low/mid end dual servers/high end workstations

I wish it was $200, but this is reality

The website, upon translation says, pre-order price is 18000Yen or roughly $149/US. And the release has been pushed back to mid-May 2001. Worth the wait?!

I agree with madhamster. I wanted to build a AMD set up because it seems to me that the T-birds are mhz for mhz faster then the PIII. Like others stated I wish this board was alittle cheaper say maybe 200-500. Oh well

i'm pretty sure they won't run THAT high, because then no one would by them. they're probably gonna be around $300

Just like every other new technology that comes out, you pay top dollar to be the first.
By June or July we should be able to buy a dual AMD motherboard for around $200. It won't
be anything as nice as the Tyan board, but then again who wants to spend all that money
for a onboard SCSI controller and dual NICs.

for 959 i can build a POWERFUL SYSTEM from scratch. Or just go with P4 and it would still be cheaper.

900 could very well be the price, I bought a dual pentium pro tyan board when they were the shizat, and it was around 450, and had no onboard anything.

Yah $959 is expansive, but remember this is a server board with dual NIC and SCSI on board, 2 64bit pci slot If you look at dual GX boards with these kind of spec, they are at least $475. Tyan thunder 2500 with Serverwork chipset is like $699. Plus everything in Japan is more expansive, so I would say the price of this board is not exactly outrageous. I would say once it hit the street here, the price shoulb be close to $800.

Mobo maker like Gigabyte and the others are waiting for Polamino to come out before they will introduce their own 760mp board, so that should be like Jun/July time frame. They will most likely have plain vanilla boards which should be at $200~$300 range. I remember seeing somewhere that AMD dual boards requires more layers of PCB(spelling??) and will be more expansive than dual intel boards.

But hey, dual 1.5 Polamino is gonna kick dual 1g p3 any day, so I would definately wait and pay for it, if they are indeed stable. (They shouldb be since IBM is gonna have their server line based on 760MP chipset)

And for those who think it's better to build P4, remember we are talking about SMP here, not only P4 cannot beat current 1.2g SINGLE Athlon in most benchmarkS, it will not be able to do SMP. So don't even mention P4 in the same sentance with dual Athlon setup!!

Its brand new. Of course it is going to be expensive. Its also the only one right now. So, they are going to charge what they want. Wait till around this summer. Things should be much better.

Now would a board like that with the dual built in Nics fit in a regular full tower case. Say like and Inwin Q500, or would one need a special case?

from what I heard p4 is not able to do smp.. just wait for the foster... To me the dual t-bird is awesome BUT seems like it was released too late in that t-bird is like the pIII in terms of cpu generation... the next big chunck of computer purchases prob will be in couple of years, when this generation (i.e. PIII and t-birds) are considered too slow to handle the next generation of applications..
