Prenups and laws

I was just wondering if this was true...
say u have a house BEFORE marrying this girl. you did not get a prenup or anything.
Then u bought another house, car...etc.

Something bad happens and u guys break up...is she entitiled to half of EVERYTHING?...
or just half of the newer house/car...?

I've been told what u possessed before the marriage is yours..she has no right to that...
however, what u got AFTER u hitched ...she has a right to.
