Premiere Video Editing Questions

Does anybody know how to do an effect where parts of the screen are "tinted" out to empasize just one person on the screen? An example of this would be in this rugby video:

Also, I'm trying to take my project in Premiere 6.0 and export it as MPEG2 video to burn onto a DVD. I've tried two different encoders, Digigani MegaPEG and Ligos LSX MPEG2. When I try to export the timeline as a movie the video does not show. If I try to view the MPEG 2 in premiere or with Power DVD, the screen just stays black and the video is not there. When I try to export just a clip as a timeline, only the audio gets encoded and not the video. I have both my audio and video channels marked to be played. I;m not sure what I'm doing wrong here. Also, this same issue happens with both encoders so I think it's an option I have set wrong in Premiere, but I just can't figure out what it is. Does anyone have any suggestions?? Thanks all!

I'm not sure how you would do that in Premiere--you can do it though in After Effects.

I haven't used any of the encoders you mentioned--but perhaps you can first export to an .avi file from Premiere and then encode that .avi file from a standalone encoder?

You might want to check out http://www.creativecow.net they have some good forums with really helpful people who know this stuff way better than me =)

Hope that helps!

Hey, thanks for the response.

You're on the right track with making an AVI and using a standalone encoder. I've tried this and it works great. However, my final project will be about ~45min and consist of like 15 AVIs and I need to create on video out of them. I cannot however just make one AVI because the file would be too big and Windows 2000 has the 4GB file size limitation. Any ideas on how to get around this?

Thanks for the link too, I'm gonna check that site out.

Seeya!

You can convert your drive to NTFS (check Windows help for instructions if you don't know how)--that will get rid of that file size limitation and also improve performance. Good luck!
