Premier transition problem

Anyone with experience in Adobe Premier ... currently working in ver 6.5.

My problem is, I'm working with two mpeg clips, both with audio, and a transition in between. It's a simple cross dissolve and while I can double click the transition and preview using Show Actual Source, when I render or when I just export to a movie file, the transition is absent.

So far the only transitions I've been able to get working are with image files, which I was using for titles. Those cross dissolved just fine, the mpegs won't. No transitions work with any of my movie files.
