Premature tire wear?!?!

I just found out that three of my cars need new tires: $4000 :'(

So while I was ordering them, I saw my order history on Tirerack. Found that I ordered tires last year for all three cars as well. I use these as daily drivers, never track them, or do anything unusual.

As best I can figure, annually, I drive:

- 15,000 miles in the Maxima with tires that are rated as UTQG: 360 AA A

- 10,000 miles in the IS-F with tires that are rated as UTQG: 400 AA A

- 5,000 miles in the Cayman S with tires that are rated as UTQG: 340 AA A

Is this kind of wear normal given the specs of those tires?

What tires were you running on the Cayman S? If they have them in your size, go for the Michelin Super Sport next time. They will outlast the PS2 by 2x, more than double the Pirelli.

If the tires wore evenly, then the choice is either performance or treadlife...or a lot of money for both...Here in Florida where roadways are embedded with shell, we ride on sandpaper in year-long summer temps...and I expect only 50% of expected UTOG treadlife...

Its all about driving style. I've gotten over 20k out of tires that were rated UTQG 220. While probably less of an issue with the Maxima it also has a lot to do with how aggressive your alignment is. I would think the IS and Cayman have fairly aggressive specs.

How are the tires wearing? Evenly, inside edge, outside edge?

Checked the Maxima - the wear was definitely heavier on the inside edge. The other cars are at the dealerships so I'll check them when I get them back.

Alignment call kill a tire inside of 5k miles.

Damage is noticeable after 1k.

Good thing you can afford replacements on a $300 tire every couple years.

Exactly what brand and model do you currently have on those cars? Sounds to me you've got some high performance rubber which you probably do not need, at least on the first two cars anyway.

Not normal. My replacements are usually around 3-4 years at 12-15k a year. Most tire deals from service centers have 60k mile warranty...unless there is an unusual wear pattern.

pretty much guaranteed to be shelling out major $$$ if you buy high performance tires as they have sticky compounds and they just don't last very long. The price you pay for the luxury of being able to carve canyons in your daily commuter... It's crap like this why I hate luxury vehicles especially those with insane maintenance costs.
