I've done a lot of upgrading lately and even with high end parts I couldn't help myself - I've been overclocking my new X2 4800+. So far it's stable at 2.7GHz with 1.40V on the core.

HTT = 225MHz
CPU Mult. = 12x
HTT mult. = 4x
Memclock Index = DDR400
Memory timings = 2.5-3-3-8-1T
Vcore = 1.40V
Vdimm = 2.8V

Hardware:
ASUS A8N-SLI Premium BIOS 1011.5
AMD Athlon64 X2 4800+ w/ stock HSF
2GB of Corsair TwinX2048 PC3200 C2PT
EVGA Geforce 6800GT
Antec SLK3700-BQE
Antec SmartPower II 500W

Anyone have any suggestions on what I can do to improve my settings? I am running with the memory at 1:1 with the CPU as I can't seem to get it to run at CAS2. But it'll run at CAS2.5 at 225MHz with no problems. This way I get to maximize the memory bandwidth. Yes I know, the A64 doesn't need the memory bandwidth as much as it's competitor....

Thanks for reading and any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Nice OC indeed, hope the 4800+ didn't burn a hole in your pocket. I would now push the frequency up and try not to exceed 1.48v tops unless you don?t mind running high'ish voltage.

What are your temps, what cooling?

Also did you catch the stepping?

Not bad at all. Especially considring the Vcore. with a bit more, who knows where it'll go ;)

RichUK, I didn't remember to jot down the stepping codes before I installed it. I was too excited. :eek:

And actually, I've backed down the o/c a little. It failed at about 1.5 hours so it's down to 2.64GHz (220HTT). I'll post up if this works out.

TrevorRC, I'm not going to go above 1.40V, I want to keep this chip as cool and the system as quiet as possible. It's in my bedroom and I'm a light sleeper thanks to having 3 kids. :)

i use the same proc on an epox 9npa+ultra with gskill 4400le and can get to 300x9 stable (mem is on 5/6 divider). then i 'upgraded' to ballistix 2 gig for a whiile but they turned into pumpkins after three months ... now i'm back to the gskills...but what mem should i go to for 2 g?

the corsair you use is similar to the mushkin performance stuff (2-3-2-6) which will do 220 fsb with a multi of 12. Running those settings with the skills gives me 5-10%less bandwidth than the 300x9 setting for the same cpu speed. Will the asus do 300 htt reliably?

Aw.. :( With the money you would've saved by buying an X2 4400+, you could've easily afforded a 7800GT.

I traded my San Diego (plus cash) for this chip. I got a pretty good deal on it or I wouldn't have been able to get it.

I don't want a 7800GT yet anyways. My 6800GT @ Ultra offers all the gaming performance I need until the next gen of GPUs rolls out. At that time, I'll jump on a 7800GTX.

This upgrade cycle was all about the platform, I'm not sold on the GPU hype at all.
