It was terminal cancer, she was going to die either way

I'm not certain if it was really terminal as in no hope no matter what you do, or terminal without treatment. Just about every article I have come across has pretty much copied the opening terminal bit, but most also talk about her refusal of "lifesaving" or "potentially lifesaving" chemo. So either there is a bit of a stretch there or perhaps some poor wording.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was something shitty like a 10% chance.

And who is to say that chemo would have worked. She wanted to save her daughter. If she went with them chemo you might lose both. Either way, I would never want to be in the situation.

The father was no longer in the picture, she had no one but her brother it seems. I'm sure for her it was an easy decision.
