Hello:
I did the 3dmark2000 test (1024x768 167bit, triple, P3), and the result was 2468, men,I have a tnt2 ultra!!!!, I bought this card because it was fast, but now, all the new games I have to play it in medium details...yeah!!! medium!!!!!, damm!!!!.. well my question is there is a way to improve my preformance??? (I tried o/c the video card, but 3dmark2000 didn`t show any differense, also changing the DET. drivers, but again, 3d mark didn`t show any differense), or just that result can handle my PC??

My sepc are:
p3-500
SY - 6vba 133 (with the via pro133 chipset)
Diamond viper v770 ultra (TNT2 Ultra)
128 Ram (Simple Tech, cas 3).

Well, thats all, thanks

Never mind 3DMark, give us some real game benchmarks, 3DMark is IMO the most unreliable benchmark out there.

Try Quake2/3 or something similar.

Just for reference, my TNT2-U OC'ed to 180/230 scored in the high 70's in Quake2 running at 1024x768x32.

I currently went from the same card you have to a geForce2 mx budget model and noticed quite a bit of improvement in TFC performance. I didn't do any benchmarks, but I was regularly dropping into the mid 20's to mid 30's range in a heavy firefight. Now it is rare for me to ever drop below mid 30's, regardless of whats going on on screen. Keep in mind that these are the LOWEST my fps get. Not my average.

Kintoke,

I have the ASUS tnt2 ultra card on a P3800 clocked to 912. My 3dmark2000 score is 2459!! You think you're upset? Latest detonator drivers from nvidia, even flashed the bios on the video card. I use 1024x768 for benchmarks, 32 bit color. 256MB PC133RAM, CUSL2 board. I think a geforce in definitely in order, like Nemi says, but I can't justify paying more for my video card than I did for my CPU AND RAM put together.
Damn, do I love that demo for the 3dmark2000. Even the music kicks ass!

Make sure you ONLY install the Detonator 2 series of drivers. Det. 3s will seriously slow down your TNT2U.

My friend has an Athlon Classic 550 and 64MB PC133 SDRAM on a K7V board. With my PCI Banshee he got 1050 in 3DMark 2000. With his new 32MB AGP Diamond Stealth card, he doesn't get much higher! So 1050-1100 on an Athlon 550!! You're complaining with 2400 or so? :)

But yeah, your video card is definitely a bottleneck. Your P3 isn't the speediest chip, but I think it is sufficient. If you got any GeForce card you'd get quite a bit of a performance jump.

You could also try overclocking that P3 a little if you can. Just a suggestion.

if you have a ntn2 ultra based system, please put your results on 3dmark 200, just to compare. also, if I o/c my p3-500, I will have more than 2450??.

bye

I'd post my TNT2U based system results but it keeps giving me an error saying "benchmark aborted":|
I'll have to figure out what's going on here...anyone have an idea?

GUYS!! Some of your problems are so obvious!! First of all, everyone go DEFAULT benchmark and compare scores. Some of you are getting the same scores as Kintoke with 32 bit while he benched in 16 bit! The difference between the two is so huge it is very noticeable in score. But all you talking about getting a geforce, get a geforce 256 ddr and overclock that sucker, I get 6500 with my 3d Prophet DDR. :)

P3-450 @ 600
CL TNT2U (@ AGP 1x)

I get around the mid 3,000s the last time I checked..

cyborg is right. I did the benchamrks in default mode... thats mean 16 bits. so..well I got 2450 in 3dmark, and I know that my card and my system can do better than that, but I can`t figure how. I don`t want to o/c the cpu because Im afraid that the cpu will burn, and com`on, the cpu`s aren`t cheap. So I tried o/c the video card, but 3dmark doesn`t show big differens, mmm... if someone with a tnt2U got 2800 or more, please tell me what I have to do to get to that average.
thanks

If you overclock and you manage to NOT change the voltage, you won't do virtually any damage to your cpu. Highering the voltage is a dangerous part of overclocking. BUT .2 volts is a good limit to set since highering the voltage by .2 volts is still in the safe way, with provided good cooling. You don't necesarily need high performance cooling but the stock heatsink is great for overclocking within regular voltage scenarios.

What directx are you using? I found some substantial differences in scores between directx 7 and direct 7a, haven't tried direfctx8 yet though.

I have directx 7a..., How can a person who has a celeron 600, 128ram have 3000 points (3dmark2000), and I (p3-500, 128, with the same video card, tnt2U) have only 2500!!!!..so how can I improve preformance on my pc???, maybe a good guide of tweak, but I don`t know. Please somebody tell me what to do :)
thanks

I just DL'd and ran that 3dmark2000. I have the same system as you, but upgraded to a GeForce2 MX (the budget one, bought for $120. Can now be found for ~$100). I got 3978 on the default benchmark.

Seriously I know know why people keep saying 3dMark2000 is unreliable. This is just pure bullsh!t.

Yes I agree it is irrelevent to compare a V5500 and GF2 running 3dmark2000 since the output score doesnt make sense :)
but it is a VERY GOOD benchmark to see if your system is setup correctly or not, by comparing system of the similar specification with similar settings, you WILL get about the same score. If someone with the same system as yours and is getting 6000, and you are getting 3000, there IS something wrong. Maybe different driver or operating system. Win2k is majorly f*king up 3dmark2000 so disregard marks ran in w2k. But if you did run it in 98, then I must say the score is a valid score.

By the way, 2468 seems Slightly low. I have had a P3/700E with CL TNT2ultra. about 3300 3dmark2000. I expect your system to get about ~3000.

Settings make a huge difference in 3DMark scores. For comparisons sake, make sure the scores in questions use the same settings. There are plenty of tweak guides online. Try tweak3d.net

Thanks
