I've had my Dell P3 450 TNT32, 256MB Ram for almost two years now and recently it's been preforming really slow. First off I installed directX8 which seemed to have slow down the loading time of my games. Also my HD crashed recently and I recieved a new one from Dell with no probs installing it. However everything doesn't seem as fast as it was since I first got it even after a 128MB memory upgrade. I deleted all the programs I no longer use, including caches, temps etc. And Defrag with MS and Norton and ran Antivirus and scandisk with no avail. Any ideas?

Did you recently upgrade to winsuck ME edition...big hog that drastically slows things down...

Also I would have stayed with direct x 7.0 as most games don't even use direct x 8.0 and your card wasn't designed for it like say the radeon and geforce3...I believe it is a pain to remove direct x after installing it...I would leave the direct x 7.0.

Also new ram....Was it generic? What is the brand? Try it with old stick only and see if you notice anything?

All just thoughts...

Also make sure DMA is enabled on that drive in systems device manager...

Nope still on WIn 98 SE,DMA is enable, and the ram is Crucial. Do you know any ways to uninstall directX 8?

TRy uninstalling direct x through add/remove programs...but I have heard mentioned this doesn't seem to work well, like it leaves some sort of reminence...However they may have been talking about doing an install of an older version over the newer one. Do it through add/remove (reboot) then install direct x 7.0 again (reboot)...try that

I am also wandering all those programs you deleted...You did remove them through add/remove right? Go to start ... run ... msconfig ...startup ...list all the files there and whether they are checked or not.

The reason I say that is I am having a hard time believing it is causing slowdowns in other areas other than loading of multimedia or games.

The upgrade...did you add a stick with an older one? Or is there just one stick there now, the new crucial one?
