I'm using SBLive!, Klispch Promediva v.2-400s, and Winamp 2.81.

I normally used full bass and treble, but I don't liek the sound of it anymore. Just moved it to Rock

With EQ off, it sounds too flat.

What do you prefer?

I did the same. I used Full Bass & Treble as the base and lowered the 2 ends a bit and thats how its been for over a year now. I could probably have left it alone but my speakers aren't the best.

With my Altec ACS-48s (2.1) I run it flat, but on my crappy PC speakers at work, I've got the bass boosted a bit and some hi-mid boost. I can't stand people you just crank everything up and trash the intended sound so they can watch the plaster fall off the walls from the bass.

I just installed the plugin. It sounds much better than the Rock preset I was using before. Thanks!

You're welcome. Do you use a preset, or just the standard boost? I have mine set to "aggresive", I think it sounds the best.

Well, I own a 31 channel RTA, so I set mine to roll from 20 to 20k at a slope of 1db/octave.

come on, this is a subjective matters since everyone has their own likeness. Some prefer powerful bass, or noisy treble...

I use Santa Cruz. I set the TBSC EQ with Rock and Winamp EQ with Default. No plugin.

Well yes.
But, there is infact a standard if you will.
For Near field it is flat.
For far field it is about a 1db/octave rool off from Low to high.
This will let you hear the file as the engineer EQed it.

I try to mess with it once, but the sound quality was not improved so now I don?t set it at all. I use the settings of my sound system.

I keep it at flat, otherwise I get very bad distortion, especially on low frequencies. It's happened with any soundcard I've tried it on, and at least 4 different sets of speakers.
My NewQ Platinum does all the equalizer functions for me.:)
The only software-controlled equalizer I ever used that worked great was the one that the Aureal Vortex cards used. I could increase the bass on it, and lower the high frequencies - very loud bass, without distortion. I can't do that in Winamp, or with the equalizer on my Santa Cruz card - always gives distortion if I increase the levels above their default flat level.
