Preferred ATI card maker ?

Is there a stand-out or preferred quality ATI card maker - Or are they pretty much all the same being built to standard spec ?

Like between ATI, Sapphire, Abit, Asus, XFX, Connect3D, etc ?

Thanks

For me, it depends on the card..

For example, for the x800XL PCI-E.. I like Asus and MSI for their dual-DVI capabilities..

Preferred card maker is generally personal and dependant on what features a person is looking for.

If you can afford it, Sapphire lol. The make good mods to ATi cards and also expensive ones such as liquid metal cooling. 😱

My X850XT is a sapphire, my 9700pro was a Powercolor. Both worked fine. Haven'T tried to OC the X850XT, the 9700Pro Oc'd pretty well as i remember.

My preferred Geforce card maker has been Elsa. My 256 was a Hercules-Guillemot or something, it was called a prophet or some such. My GF3 was a Elsa, it rocked, oc'd fantastically. So when i bought a 6800GT, it was also an Elsa, same experience. I am also partial to German companies like Elsa, since i do live here and all 🙂.

ATi cards, are made by Sapphire.

You also forgot Powercolor.

PC Partner has made most ATI graphic cards over the last several years including most of ATI's own branded cards and virtually all of Sapphire's graphic cards. You'll probably be seeing PC Partner branded ATI graphic cards and motherboards very soon.

Connect3d IMO sucks ass, it's kind of like the XFX versions for Nvidia, their not the best. Sapphire is by far the best out of the manufacturers, followed by ASUS/ABIT then Powercolor.

EDIT: Well obviosuly ATI's the best manufacturer, but for 3rd party people I'd say Sapphire.

I guess you didnt read the whole thread.

ATi branded cads, are made by Sapphire. So how are they "obviously" the best, when they are the same thing as Sapphire branded cards.

I'm talking about the mods if you didn't read. Such as liquid metal cooling, heatsinks etc.

Wtf are you troll talking? There is a huge difference between who makes the cards and who makes the mods. Your talking about a whole different thing in regards to what I'm stating.

I didn't even know they were still around. I also have an Elsa GF3 and it's an excellent overclocker; I still use it in an older secondary computer.

No I am not. ATi doesnt make ATi branded cards. Sapphire makes them.

GJ waiting for the third post to break out the name calling though.

No..stay away from the Asus x800xl, its underclocked by 10mhz, it makes a very minimal difference between standard fps...like 3-6 frames per second in games, but on the other hand the Asus has a nice cooler, LED and some exta bells and whistles to go with its software, its also the cheapest X800XL when I bought mine.

I wasnt even sure that ATI made cards, just licensed their product.

Take a look at this PowerColor x600Pro for example.

http://www.powercolor.com/global/images...s/PCIE_X600_R38-PD3C/PSD/image_b_s.jpg

Is this a standard fan that I could just replace with something else if it had a fan failure (standand bolt pattern) or is the entire thing with the little silicon waves one giant hard to replace or take off unit ? It looks like 1/2 passive cooling and 1/2 fan.

On the other hand the Sapphire built x600Pro is just a regular little fan.

Regardless its clear that PowerColor went the extra mile in additional design for this card compared to Sapphire.

For quality Ive been told to stick with Sapphire. Thanks for all the replies !

Like I stated in my post, PC Partner makes the cards and motherboards for ATI and Sapphire and other ATI partners(in fact between 60-70% of all ATI chipped graphic cards) ATI has stated themselves that they are a chip company, not a board manufacturer (supposedly only currently manufacturing their AIW and FireGL lines) Apparently, PC Partner will be branding their own products as well.
