We Do :)

"The Philippines is now touted as the world's texting capital. The country has now close to 10 million mobile cellular phone subscribers and about a million text messages are sent back and forth through the two local cellular phone networks"

In a survey made last year apparently one network (Globe Telecoms) processes over 20million messages per day.

Now that's GSM in action!

Funny thing is, when i was in the Philippines i always thought the US would have a better cellular network and phone choices. In the Philippines there's tons of choices on phone brands and models and that thing is like water, network coverage is also pretty outstanding. Even those in the lower income bracket has at least 2-3 cellphones in the household.

Amazing to say the least given the country's GNP.

I love using SMS on my mobile phone. I get the weather on it every morning from my Yahoo! alerts. I'll msg someone instead of calling them if I'm not sure if they're awake. Very convenient.

Thanks for the link, interesting article and really odd survey results there!

<< Interestingly, some of those surveyed admitted to using the cellular phone to cheat during exams in school.>> :Q

<<Almost one-third of the male youth surveyed said that they gave away their mobile phone numbers on their first date. Among females, the situation was the reverse since two-thirds freely offered their numbers on the first date. >>:Q

<<While most couples in the survey said that they rely on mobile phones "to move their relationship to the next level," only 40 percent of the respondents find the device helpful. >> :Q

<<Filipino couples rarely propose via text messaging.
>>

Umm, what??

Only in the Philippines:) You have a perfectly capable communication device in a cell phone yet you use them more for sending brief text messages! What's the reason for that? Is airtime too expensive for voice conversations? I have SMS on my phone and never use it - it's such a novelty and useless when somebody can just talk with me on the phone.

I don't know about the Phillipines but in Japan it is expensive. Most of my friends run bills around $80-150 a month which isn't as much as it sounds but is still pretty big. Calling plans don't have free minutes but make allowances for a certain amount. Like a typical $50 plan will have about $25 in free minutes which is small since it's like 30cents a minute. Plus the nice thing about text is that you don't actually have to have a conversation, you can just be like, hey what's up I'm having a burger at McDonalds and it's good. Or stupid stuff like that.
