Prediction: who controls the federal government has very little to do with stock market performance.
That would be true except for this President who purposefully tweets and makes announcements to manipulate specific stocks and the market as a whole.
The US President is very powerful and CAN in fact affect the markets. In the past, US presidents had the sense not to do this but since Trump is a total moron completely unbound by social norms or responsibilities, he does what he wants. If he wants to tweet about "breaking up Amazon" he does and it sends the stock down 4% that day. Did one of his advisors tell him to do that after shorting the stock? Nobody knows.
Acting like a President can't have an affect on the market merely because previous presidents tried their best not to is ignorant and wrong.
