"I got some stuff on there that ain't all strictly legal ..."

Hahaha, I remember that! Oh man, I'm sure it doesn't hold up. I better check youtube to confirm.

Did not age well at all.

But sure takes me back to my favorite period in gaming.

I swear I bought every game magazine that summer itching for ANY crumb I could get about the 32 bit SNES CD. Shit would have been EPIC. Lunar on Sega CD? Imagine if Square did Final Fantasy VI or Chrono Trigger on SNES CD...

You realize it would have been exactly the same as the PSX versions right? ;p

And Square wouldn't be giving us the garbage they are now. I think I'd accept that trade off. No FF6+ and no Chrono Cross in exchange for none of the crap they have put out in the last 10 years? Sign me up. I'd be okay with Wild Arms 2 taking the top spot.

It was going to be made by Sony right? If things worked out we may have been playing Zelda and Mario on ps3

Yeah, Nintendo burned Sony, Sony took the basic platform of the SNES CDROM they had invested in, made it stand alone and added a 3D GPU to it, and the Playstation was born. Originally PlayStation was coined for a cross licenced Sony manufactured all in one combo SNES + SNES CD (Eg JVC XEye/Wondermega).

Wonder if anyone involved with that at Nintendo is still kicking themselves....

So yeah...SNES CD would have been freaking amazing. Ugh I was so excited... Kept telling my Sega buddies just you wait and see...

i remember i purchased a sega cd and was so excited for mortal kombat on there because the early pictures were arcade perfect.

turned out the game was a straight port of the genesis version with arcade quality sound. and when shang tsung morphed the game paused for like 15 seconds.

needless to say i was heated that i bought that game.

I didn't think Nintendo burned Sony. I thought they just decided CDs weren't the future and went with carts again. So Sony took all their research and put out a competing console.

Arcade perfect with 64 colors ? Nope. ROFL.

Sadly the Sega CD did nothing for Genesis graphics limitations.

Was still an exciting time. Other than Working Designs, I lusted over games like Sonic CD, Ground Zero Texas, Heart of the Alien, etc. and ate up the full motion video live actor hype like candy.

My Sega CD has a prominent spot in my collection, in fact I have both the Model 1 and Model 2 systems.

And theyve been #3 ever since.

What really sucks is mask ROMs are actually superior to optical media in density *now* when it used to be the other way around, so in a way Nintendo was right. But at the time, there was no way we were fitting 650 MB on a chip.

64GB flash in a SD today and mask ROM can be higher density than flash.

Supposedly the replacement to BluRay will be solid state.

the "pictures" were definitely bait/switch from actual arcade screen shots lol.

The only perfect arcade port of MK I know of is the one that came with the PS2/XBox special edition of a newer MK but even that has issues with audio.

Its like KI, no damn 100% perfect arcade port.

I actually beat Sewer Shark... btw... Not sure I should be sharing that but hell FMV and CD gaming was so new and exciting then

The only CD-based game I think I actually sat all the way through back then was Y's Book I and II. Still worth a shot if you love classic JPRGs, great music too! It's been re-released a number of times IIRC.

Microsoft just backtracked on the "the system needs to phone home" and the "you need to pay to reactivate used games" issues that everyone was worried about.

I'm not really worried about the Xbone's $100 price difference, either. Microsoft can easily offer a $100 rebate at launch, assuming that you sign up for a year or two of XBox Live Gold.
