Games ultimately sell systems, not innovation.

Not to mention Nintendo and MS innovations don't appear to be selling points this generation.

MS Invented a way to bring the Nazis to your living room. Sony invented a way to not piss off almost a billion gamers.
 
FWIW including the kinect was a smart move for MS. There is a huge difference between any peripheral that is included/required vs one that is not, but very popular. It means that developers can count on it being there and integrate it into their games, even if its in some small way. I think its one of those things that kinda looks like a blockhead move to the hardcore gamers, but it'll pay off in the long run. I think the mistake is them thinking it is a $100 value add, not the inclusion.

Yep, it's motivated me and tons of others from indifference to seething hatred. I hate everything the Xbox One stands for, and I am looking forward to it's failure. I and legions of others will not give up spreading the word until that pile of crap is a complete and total failure. Never in the history of gaming has something been so loathed. ET, Virtual Boy, the biggest failures in gaming history will pale in comparison to Microsoft losing billions by their own stupidity.

They had it all, and they threw it away.

Well yeah, to the extent it could've ever been considered "free" then it was a no brainer. But even if they'd gotten down to match Sony's $400, the PS4 fans would just argue that forced you to pay for Kinect with 'inferior' graphics.

And to an extent, they'd be right. Kinect isn't free. The real question will be whether it's worth it. And that argument can't really be had until we see it in action.

Well free would never happen, but if it was $450 I think it'd be easier to swallow, other issues aside.
 
I do think Sony will see some backlash from big publishers on the used games issue. How big of a problem would it be for Sony if EA announced tomorrow they would sell their games on PSN only?

No, it's a terrible move. Being more expensive than the PS4 is a huge problem, far more than the online only stuff.

Here's some food for thought:

Although MS' used game policy will bring in more revenue to developers per sale of a used game, wouldn't the extra sales from people purchasing PS4 games, as opposed to XBO games, offset the loss of potential revenue that would have been gained on used game sales? In other words, if I were a developer and had to choose between PS4 and XBO, wouldn't it be more profitable for me to make PS4 games since I would get more retail sales up front on the PS4 (assuming PS4 sells better than XBO)? Revenue on the XBO might catch up over time due to consistent revenue generation from used game sales, but money now is always better than money in the future.

I know you meant PS4, but it's actually kind of funny, the PS3 very well might outsell the Xbox One over the 2013-2014 timeframe, LOL.

This has been my secret prediction. The big publishers are simply going to decide that broadband has enough reach that they stop selling discs, and start selling codes. Hell, it's happened already, just not on a mass scale. No more rentals or used games... unless you have an Xbox One.

Better hope publishers love those discs, I guess.
 
The problem (thank GOD) is that we're not there yet. Not NEARLY there. Most people have like 1.5-7mbit internet, and even then don't get full speed all that often.

Your new Halo game on BD media? 31GB? Yeah that's gonna fly great when the user excitedly pays $60+ for it and then has to wait 11 days for it to download.

That said, I think you're under-estimating what hardcore gamers usually have for broadband. I'd bet that if we ran a poll in this forum, most people would top 5mbit/s downloads, easily.
 
no way in HELL ea would do that. they would lose a lot of money imo because a lot of people who would buy the disc won't buy the dl version only.

what i'm wondering with these downloadable only games is if they will let you download them like a week or so early, but you can't activate it till midnight of the release day. i believe they did something like this with pc games.

We get it on most games, at least big games now, it is called pre loading. We get to download the game anywhere from a week to a day before hand and then at release it downloads a few files and unlocks the game.

And that's the wrong thinking, hardcore gamers. Hardcore gamers are not what what makes games or systems sell, the general public is what matters and the general public does not have a super fast Internet connection. The USA has one of the slowest Internet connections per capita for a first world country.

Yeah, from the demo when they showed it you could tell it wasn't really Dead Rising, none of the quirky fun stuff that made DR a unique and great game aren't there in DR3. I thought DR3 looked ok besides that and the whole let me call in artillery on my phone lol.

I read somewhere MS is publishing this so they probably had Capcom make it this way. Because we can't have enough dudebro games 🙁

i only played dr1 never touched dr2, but i thought it looked awesome BECAUSE it doesn't look cartoony like the first one did. looked much grittier and darker. but i do hope it has the silly weapons and stuff.
