Why would Lockheed need to lay off? I thought that cutting spending was good for the economy, right?

Government contracts being suspended. Lockheed does not have deep enough pockets to keep everyone working if they can not bill the government for the work. Even retroactive.

Cutting spending is good. Forces the elimination of waste.

There will be pain. Better now than later.
When a wheel goes flat, you stop before destroying the tire and put on a spate.

Example the F35 program. Lockheed is over budget and falling further behind on a weapon system that is not needed. They shut down the F22. The same can be done with the F35.

Take lessons learned and back to drawing board.

Pare down overseas bases. Take those savings and put it into valid infrastructure projects.

Fix the drug purchase issue that Obama chooses to ignore.

Force competition for government $$$.

So, uhh, it's the market reaction to the spending cuts that will be damaging to the economy in the short run, rather than the tax increases, right?

Who was it that held the full faith & credit of the govt hostage to getting those cuts, anyway?

C'mon, Righties- I know you have conveniently short memories, but they can't be that short...

Market reaction will affect paper wealth.

The faith / credit was destroyed the moment Congress refused to pass a budget.

Everything else just exposed the falsehoods that the government was living. Smoke and mirrors along with the inability / unwillingness to obey the laws of the land

As if the "paper" wealth has no grounding in real-world spending.

I would agree that spending must be cut and it must be cut everywhere.

I'm sure you believe that, even though it makes no sense whatsoever.

Market reaction will do more than that, because austerity will actually reduce employment further & damage commerce in general. The market will anticipate that, adjust accordingly, and it won't be up. It'll also affect consumer confidence in no small way, which sure as Hell won't make the situation better. When life becomes more uncertain than we'd like, we all have a tendency to hold onto our money, and that's the worst thing that can happen at a macro level.

Reference the paradox of thrift.

For the last 6 years, the public has lived with uncertainty ad they knew the government was unable to function properly.

Take the hit 6 years ago with less pain. Take it now knowing that it has to be done or delay another 6 years when we may not have control over how to handle it.

We know that Obama can / will not control the financials and is along to let them run free.

I would rather dig myself out of a hole dug by the devil I know that the devil I do not.
At this point, I know how deep it is
