I amend my previous statements. The family connections could help you. I didn't read that far and see them. Your GPA is going to hurt at a lot of those schools but family *might* help equally.

For what its worth, I hope you get in. There is more to life than GPA. Let me know how it goes.

I know people who 3-5 years ago had ~4.0 GPAs (unweighted) from extremely good schools and 1500+ SATs and were rejected from the same schools.

At UCB you have a slight chance. At Vandy, you have a slight chance.

please you never heard of legacy admissions? It's like AA for whites. I know guys with 3.0's that got into the schools he mentioned coming from out of our private school back east.. this was 1989 but I doubt times have changed much.

Apply to the liberal arts schools: Vassar, Wesleyan, Reed, Haverforf, etc. Standards are nearly as high, but look *much* more favorably towards mavericks like yourself. I knew a kid my year at my alma mater that never had only had an SAT and nothing else. He was home-schooled.

Further, my goal is to help bring about change not through only my skillset but in coordination with those whom I meet in school. Otherwise I am afraid I will become apathetic and blow a lot of money learning non vocational information that I could have gotten from Wikipedia. I can see why most people would say so, but I'm a go for broke kinda of guy who wants gamble.
Also, I'm not someone who likes to brag, show people up, or be the center of attention. This fun little game/contest is not for my e-penis but rather to reward a few lucky folks and get my mind away from stressing over admissions process.

Rofl, good luck with betting on your future or betting in general. I hope it back fires on you.

Also, obviously you care and it's for your pride or else you wouldn't be posting here. No one gives a flying hump what school you go to or how much money you can throw down... we don't care that your father was an alumnus at wherver he was an alumnus at...we don't care about gfathers who write letters...to think that a group of strangers honestly cares one iotta about you or your life is foolish.

You are right, I do care, which is what I said in the portion of my post that you quoted. What's with the negativity and general petulance? I'm very anxious to see if I got in because I know that if I am able to matriculate at one of these 10 schools that I will be in an academic setting that I can thrive in for the first time in my life.
Thanks,
Brad

Edit: Seriosuly man, how can you say such things with a signature like yours? To be honest, I think it is awesome that you are an 18 year old college junior and have things going well for you, but it contradicts your scathing remarks.

Dude, with that GPA i have a feeling you'll get pwned at all the ivys. I had a good GPA, and went to one of those VERY competitive schools you mentioned (prob more competitive), and still got pwned at most of the ivys. however, you have good extracurriculars and took a year off. so i'll give you Cornell.

I am 100% sure of the following, with the exception of northwestern & vanderbilt. I hope you prove me wrong.

UC-Berkeley Accepted
Stanford Rejected
Princeton Rejected
Harvard Rejected
Yale Rejected
Cornell Accepted
Brown Rejected
UPenn Rejected
Northwestern Accepted
Vanderbilt Accepted

my point is that it's kind of absurdly unrealistic expectations. some people have no concept of what it means to go to college let alone your list. i could see schools like "kansas univ, texas univ...etc" with an average GPA but when you come spouting off all your accomplishments, recommendations, jobs, classes, etc there's a wall that is instantly formed. you would be accepted to 90% of the schools in the nation but you want the 10% that you would have trouble getting into. then, you pigheadedly declare that you won't settle at all for the other 90%. you say it's either the top 10% or you're going to go to CC...CC for you would be highly unadvisable. i'm not condoning you as a person and i admire your determination and struggle to get into those top 10% but you're goals, however ambitious, are a little unrealistic and you should realize that the people you are bragging to under the guise of assistance generally don't care. infact, if you hadn't offered the money, im confident that this thread would have turned negative by the end of the first page.

also, decisions come eventually. why do you need that EXTRA speculation of when you'll get in. you'll get official letters coming in, as you said, in 3 days. why couldn't you have waited the 1month or so for official confirmation instead of speculating about where you'll go early? it seems pointless and doe nothing other than build up your stress level. stressing out over the top 10% of schools is not only unhealthy but irrational.

Simply stated, I need to be put in my place. I've always felt smarter, more compassionate, more talented etc... than everyone around me and have wasted great opportunities. I do not want to have the same thing happen in the single 4-5 year chance I will get at college. By getting my ass handed to me by people who work harder and have more talent than myself, I hope to find an instinctual assiduity that has gone untapped.

Guessing is over in 5 minutes, any last minute picks must be revealed prior to the completion of my OP edit to say what at least 1 school has told me.

I'm going to win. If I lose, it will be because of the UCB waitlist. Should be a rejection.

You can still win, just perhaps not the grand ultimate prize.

Also, what would you guess might be an expected date to hear if I somehow got off the waitlist?
