Pre-workout snacks?

Can the gym gurus here suggest any cheap and easy to prepare snacks that I can eat at my desk before I leave for the gym? I'm talking like out of the bag/box snacks because I don't really have the means to prepare anything that time of the day at work. I want something that is low in fat (or fat free) but provides as much energy (carbs?) as possible. Right now, I'm just eating these honey wheat pretzel sticks but I feel like there's something better out there. And I'm not really looking to deal with any type of shakes or energy drinks. I want some substance because I'm normally pretty hungry that time of day as well.

Thanks.

im too lazy to prepare snacks but those sneakers protein bars taste just like candy...dont know if they help but it has some protein.

Cold balls made of cooked rice and egg whites (with any spice flavor to taste better).

Easy to carry and to eat

Don't need the protein. I down whey protein shakes in the morning and directly after workout, followed by a protein-heavy meal. Where I'm lacking is energy prior to getting to the gym. I get off work at 4:00pm EST and go directly to the gym . But I'm usually hungry and a bit lethargic from the work day. And I can't deal with those caffeinated energy drinks or anything like that. That's why I'm looking for some substance.

I'm open to any suggestions. Was hoping to avoid anything that required preparation but this sounds interesting. Can you explain exactly how you make them? i.e. type of rice? how is the egg white incorporated? etc.? Thanks.

I might suggest a raw foods bar.. they're some of the new types of "energy bars" that have no processed ingredients, provide a nice balance of fat, protein, and carbohydrates. Try Larabar. They're really tasty and usually have fewer than 5 ingredients, so you always know what you're getting.

i also wonder if just regular rice would work but there are also some types of rice that are more sticky than others and sometimes its how you cook it (even if its in a rice cooker). Soy is sticky but that isnt a good idea though as i dont like the taste.

Short grain rice (rissoto rice, sushi rice) is stickier, and it's easier to make rice balls with them.

I googled and couldn't come up with what he/she was suggesting. Only things I found were rice balls that are dipped in egg whites, coated in breadcrumbs and deep fried. Sounds good but not what I want before a gym workout. And the other thing I found was a Japanese rice roll but it was more complex than just rice/egg whites. It's called Onigiri, made with sticky rice and you stuff the inside of the ball with your choice of ingredients. I could enjoy just white rice, egg whites and salt/pepper but not sure how exactly the previous poster prepares it.
