Pre Tech Data? (Solved)

Hi,

A thread addressing reg cleaners in which CCleaner came up, inspired this new curiosity.

First, at some point, I checked clean Old Pre Tech data in CCleaner in its advance tools. I had never done that before.

I just delved, and there is info on the interwebs saying this is a bad idea. Is it??

Next, I am the midst of a trial of Auslogics Disk Defragger, and, so far, I am liking it even more than Perfect Disk, which I've used for a long time.

But, I remain unclear re optimizing the HDD using either, which configuration to use. I am trying optimize using pre tech layout...feel it feel it is not natural, and it takes forever. But, I am not sure. I find nothing online re respective optimization strategies, forget that one.

Can anyone here offer information I need to get clear on this Pre Tech stuff?

Windows allows a constant amount of space for Prefetch Data, and as it adds new entries, it removes the older ones, so that it works much like RAM would. So there is no need to manually do this.

Auslogics is my defrag program of choice ever since Vista, where there was no progress indicator. It has several good settings, such as "Optimize" and "Move system files to the beginning of the disk", so you can make it as helpful or quick as you would like.

Perfect Disk also affords varying optimization strategies as for the drive, but my take is Aus does it all better and faster!

And my new take is do it by pre tech layout is not the best choice.

And, just removed the check from CCleaner's advanced tools, now that I know it is redundant cause Windows does it!
