I just found out about this brand new desktop being carried at Office Depot for Q3. Laptops and Desktops should be on display by July 5th in all locations.

Gateway DX4710-UB301A
Price: $749.99 (regular price)
Sku: 170685
RAM: 6GB DDR2
Processor: Intel Q6700 Quad Core
Standard DVD Burner, Vista 64-Bit Home Premium
Power Supply: 300W (I think - sticker says 300W max)
Ports: 2 PCI, 1 PCI-e 1x, 1 PCI-e x16, 4 SATA, 1 e-SATA, 1 Firewire, 4 Rear USB, 1 rear Network, 2 Front USB, 1 VGA (onboard), 3 USB headers inside (total of 10 ports possible)
Card Reader: CF/SD/XD/MS and derivatives
Accessories: PS/2 Multimedia Keyboard with permanent Wrist Wrest, USB mouse with scroll, 2.0 speakers (which have USB and 3.5mm connectors, ASI Audio Technologies model GEMPU1-1G)
Hard Drive: 640GB

It has built-in intel graphics, but the graphics cards in store PC's are usually crap. Throw in an nVidia for around $200 and you got yourself a pretty good machine. For the price, a pre-configured and fully warrantied system by one of the better companies, HOT!!!

(Acer owns Gateway, PC World Magazine readers rate both top of their classes).

Most stores won't have these on display yet (or maybe even in stock). If they only have one, they might not sell it to you (need a display). Expect to see standard MIR with minimal instant savings throughout the quarter.

BTW, if you're wondering about new OD laptops and desktops, we'll have a 1GB Compaq (again), a 19" HP bundle for $850 with 4GB RAM, an Acer bundle (no details), an HP Media Center Elite with 6GB RAM, quad core and nVidia 9300/9500 (can't remember) for around 1,000 (probably 1TB or 1.5TB storage), two acer desktops, one (I think) acer laptop, the HP Desktop touchscreen PC for $1250, and various laptops. Stores that have low-volume on laptops will have fewer laptops displayed. Most the new laptops have 4GB of RAM, and some (like the new 12" Swivel HP touchscreen) have the new Turion ZM processors.

DIY Comparison:
q6600 CPU/Mobo $210
-or-
q6700 CPU/Mobo $382
-or-
q9450 CPU/Mobo $400
750GB HDD $100
2GB DDR2 ~$37 (~$111)
Card Reader $5
Vista 64-Bit $89
e-SATA card $20
DVD Burner $27
Case $19
Cheap Power Supply $25
$40 Keyboard/Mouse/Speakers
Total $818 for the Q6700 setup, $836 for the Q9450, or $646 for the q6600. Add about $100 shipping to all those numbers.

Please repost when it becomes available. The possibility that stores may not even have them in stock by July 5th doesn't make this a hot deal.

Not bad at all!

Thanks for the info, since I work at OD its nice to know some of this ahead of time. I also happen to like that Acer laptop we currently carry.
