So Palm announced this afternoon that gaming on WebOS was taking a huge step forward, and they were right. They released Need for Speed: Undercover, The Sims 3, Asphalt 5, Let's Golf, X-Plane, and a number of other games today.

So far I've only played Let's Golf and Need for Speed, but I'm quite impressed. The graphics on NFS:U are better than what I remember them being on the iPhone.

I'm quite happy with the big improvements Palm is making to the WebOS platform. And with the Pre + and Pixi + hitting Verizon in a couple weeks, along with 2 unannounced WebOS phones going to AT&T sometime this year, WebOS may still be a contender.

WebOS is the best OS out right now. Infinitely better looking and much more slick than any OS including the iPhone. iPhone obviously does some things better than it but WebOS does many things better as well and looks so much better than the bland iPhone OS and the way it handles multi-tasking is awesome and better than any OS out there. The only things it really needs is better hardware. The Pre is good and they made it better with the Verizon version but there's tons of room for improvement but I read that they made the keyboard better and the sliding mechanism better as well.

Hopefully this will speed the damn thing up. I have sitting in my desk drawer because it is unable to me. I am admittedly a power user but the thing lags so bad I actually miss phone calls. I am currently using a Hero and am very satisfied with Android. Sure it could be faster but it is a hell of lot better than the Pre. I just wish the Hero had the Pre's Cortex CPU.

The one thing I wish that WebOS had is a homescreen. Getting the Hero reminded me how much I missed them. I sure don't need seven, one will suffice, but I would like that one on WebOS.

Im downloading Need for Speed right now. Another great thing, not sure if this is the norm for most smart phones, i recently got a replacement via insurance and loaded up my palm profile. It imported all my apps, contacts, and email settings. The only thing i had to transfer was music and photos. Ridiculously easy and not a headache.

The 1.3.5 update had MAJOR speed improvements (1.3.5.1 was released the other day, just fixing a bug in the calendar sync). There really is zero lag in it anymore.

Funny. I went from the hero to the pre for the exact same reason. Even with minimal gadgets running the hero was frustratingly slow to use as an actual phone. I also pull better signal on the pre (via roaming on verizon most likely) at my work, a hospital's basement. Between performance, signal and webOS...I enjoy the pre much more than I did the hero.

I'm in the same boat.

Played with a Hero at the store, and it lagged like crazy. It was unbearable. As a result, ended up getting the Pre.

At the time (mid November), Pre wasn't the fastest either, but now, after the latest update, it's really improved a lot and overall, just fast!
