one of (if not THE) biggest game release of the year and you have to pre-order it to get it on release day?

How dumb is this? You mean to tell me that stores are not stocking tons of copies of this game, knowing that its one of the most anticipated sequels in a long long time to come out?

I'd say most people will be able to buy it tomorrow. Maybe not every store in town, but most will have plenty of copies.
 
my roomate is going to EB at 12 tonight to grab his preordered copy and the dumbest part is he actually talked me into going with him...
 
Who says that you HAVE TO pre-order it to get it tomorrow?

There will be plenty of people buying it off the shelf.
 
I've never had trouble going down to my local best buy for any game. Even though I really don't like BB, they keep good inventory. My ebgames is always sold out on pre orders though, like gta:sa was.
 
I already have my preorder in(though I did that to get the collectors edition- comes with a DVD of the making of Halo 2 and it's only $5 more) and am going to be heading out to EB in a few hours to pick it up(well, going for the release party- they have a bunch of XBoxs and are going to have a kind of LAN party for a few hours until midnight).

They said they wont have any more copies except the pre-ordered ones until around the weekend or so.
 
I used to be a Gamestop manager. The reason for the big push on pre-orders is that the corporation decides how many to ship a store based on the number of preorders. Yes there are big releases, and they'll usually ship more to a high volume store.

They'll usually get extras though.. but that's not always definite. You're basically being told to reserve it because it's the only way they'll guarantee you a copy... it's also a way to keep customers from yelling at the workers when they show up to buy it off the shelf and there's none left.

There have been a few times where a game has sold out so quickly that it was a pretty long time before we got restocked (GTA 3 comes to mind... the original Halo was pretty bad as well). All stores will probably get a whole bunch of them... but there's always a chance that a bunch of people will buy it before you can get to it.. which always sucks.

2 of my freinds are doing that too. I have to wait until I get home from school tomorrow to play it...

I talked one of my friends into pre-ordering it, and going with me tonight. May have talked another friend into joining us... And he doesn't even have an Xbox. 🙂

 
If it is one of the biggest game releases of the year, then the question is, why havn't you pre-ordered it already?

i got it at my local EB last night at 1 am i have it almost beaten now i did NOT preorder it and actually I got 2 copies last night

Why? Do you preorder TP just to ensure the store has it? Last time I checked, I didn't have to preorder anything that a store should normally be stocking. This game should be a normally stocked item after 11-8-04

Why should this be any different? Its the largest game release of the year so far and stores aren't bright enough to order tons of the game?

 
I dunno about you, but I don't buy Halo every month of the year like toilet paper. Video Games are bought in waves. If the store buys too many for the wave of popularity for a given video game, the rest end up in the bargain bin.

I've never pre-ordered a game and doubt I ever will. If store A doesn't have it on release day, store B right around the corner will. A simple phone call before I leave ensures a quick trip. If EB only wants to order enough to cover pre-orders and a few more, so be it. Not me that's loosing the sale.

Maybe it's different in some areas. We do have quite a few stores around here. I believe a co-worker stopped by Walmart last night after leaving the bar and picked up a copy without waiting in any lines.
 
I didn't preorder it... I just waited til about 1 am last night and then bought it off of bestbuy.com and selected in-store pickup. Got my email notification this morning at 8 am saying it was ready for pickup. That worked pretty well for me, and I finally got to use my 20+ Best Buy Bucks! No midnight lines or anything (closest store that has the game in-stock would be in Conroe, TX, and I live in Huntsville), so I'm very happy how smooth it went, as well as about the simple fact that I got a copy of the LE before the first round sold out. Now I can take my time getting to class to take my test (in 20 minutes...), and then take the 30 minute trip to Conroe's Best Buy to pick my copy up without having to worry about the ~36 (I believe that's how many they received first shipment) copies being all sold out by the time I get there. Good stuff 😀.

its actually surprisingly good once you get over the weird right thumbstick looking mode which is similar to splinter cell anyway.... graphics look gorgeous and the game is pretty fun so far we've played through the first level a bit
 
I just walked into the Best Buy down the street where I work during lunch and p/u'd the CE Edition.

No preorders here.
