Pre-order the Nokia N-Gage Mobile Game Deck - $299.99...

heh...I actually got to play with a working version last Thursday, since I'm going to be a marketing rep for the N-Gage in my area..."N-Gage Special Forces". Stupid name, I know, but hey, the $$$ they pay me speaks for itself. 🙂

And the handheld was surprisingly competent...and this coming from a longtime N-fanboy. The form-factor is really slim, with good sound, built-in FM radio...MP3 player from MMC, and you can use an MP3 as a ring tone, which was nice. The screen has a good resolution, very bright...Sonic played pretty well. The button layout was a little much, but it wasn't too bad.

I'll have a better impression once I get my own, which should be in a week and some. 😀

I don't think the N-Gage will do well either. The price point is WAY too high for the casual gamer. And who mostly plays Gameboy's anyways? Children and teenagers. And how many teenagers have $300 to blow on a cell phone/handheld anyways?

The price will kill it, along with the god awful design and multitude of buttons (it is a cell phone after all).

PLUS, you have to remove the damn battery pack to switch games!! What crap is that? I feel for them, I really do.

I think the N-Gage is going to bomb.

So do I

me too!
I really want to agree with you all, but people seem to like fvcking stupid crap built into phones. I guess they want to feel important AND 1337 at the same time.

My friends checked it out at E3, said it was a major POS, so yeah undoubtably I'm hoping, and can bet that it will fail.

The smart thing would be to get in bed with nintendo and make a phone that takes GBA carts

As it is the ngage is going to fail bigtime

I would say the introduction of the PSP would be the N-Gage's downfall, but luckily we won't be seeing the PSP for another year atleast. I honestly do not see it succeeding, as they are aiming it at the wrong market with the cell phone/gaming portable combo.

How many of these things can they sell without having Pokemon in anyway associated with it?

Sadly slycat, from the latest review, I have to agree w/ you on this one, I personally fell Nokia hosed the development job IMO 🙁

WTF were they thinking? What's up with that terrible game insertion design? The lack of physical volume controls and no standard headphone jack? Frame rate problems? Pfftt. Screw this. It's a mishmash of mediocre crap. A "taco" of a phone, a POS MP3 player, terribly designed game system. Oh wait, it has a good radio player. That makes up for all of it.
