And laws like The Family and Consumer Choice Act aren't going to have a big impact on companies like HBO because they will simply raise their prices to compensate for any lost revenue. Without that revenue they won't be able to produce quality programming like GoT in the first place, so be careful what you wish for.

That's a great point - they will increase the price they charge for GoT and their other programming, and we won't have to pay for a cable package to get it. Good trade off - bring it on baby.

Did you look at the decision paper TLC? Theft is mentioned once. They were not deciding whether it was theft or not. The case was:
Did you even read what you quoted? The operative word is "distributor" and "distribute." iow, that doesn't apply to those who download, it applies to those who facilitate downloaders. As I already noted, those who unlawfully distribute copyrighted products are guilty of copyright infringement. Those who download those unlawfully distributed prodcuts are thieves. Read your links more carefully and digest that a bit.

iTunes shows that alternative distribution has the potential to be extremely profitable.
iTunes' business model has zero in common with that of a company like HBO that produces exclusive content. You are making a straw man argument.

Yeah I read it. Did you read the decision paper? It doesn't apply to the discussion of whether downloading songs on the internet is theft or copyright infringement.

By the way, downloading is usually torrents, so those people are distributing since you upload chunks of what you've downloaded to other users when you torrent.

I urge you to look at the cases brought by the MPAA and RIAA - they are under copyright infringement, not "theft".

Non-HBO suscribers can already get GoT. They simply have to wait for it. Waiting is a problem why, exactly?

The case pertains specifically to those who distribute content illegally.

So they are guily of copyright infringement and theft at the same time. Awesome.

I already provided citation for cases where courts have deemed illegal downloading as equivalent to "theft."

And I will leave you with this:

It’s my sense that this linguistic peeving is explained by the fact that “theft” has definite moral overtones to it, while “infringement” is still capable of euphemistically avoiding any moral concerns. Perhaps proponents of this argument hope that by straining semantics, they don’t have to confront the very real harm that infringement causes to creators and the public.

It's exactly the argument you are trying to present. I don't care what you strain to call it. It's wrong, plain and simple.

If it was theft, why don't the people charged with protecting the copyright use "theft" to prosecute downloaders/distributors? :)

It's because copyright infringement carries greater penalties and it is easier to prosecute.

Let's stop with the lame attempts at semantics. When you take something that doesn't belong to you that makes you a thief.

I think that's the issue though - you aren't taking a physical thing. Like on iTunes, you don't actually purchase the music, you purchase a license to play it.

People who illegally download content haven't purchased a license, nor is any implied. What is the point of your argument?

I am enjoying TLC's smug and superior attitude, he seems to enjoy talking down to people. You sir, should remove cock from ass.
