Does anyone make a rounded cable designed specifically for the SB Live Drive? I've read a few places that you can use an IDE cable, but I wanted to know if anyone has tried this successfully. I found at least one website which mentioned using an IDE cable here, but he said he got the cable backwards once and almost friend his card :Q I guess it would be pretty easy to make sure pin 1 is in the right place.

Thanks for any comments :)

[edit] does anyone know where to get a SINGLE DEVICE 36" rounded IDE cable? I haven't been able to find one. And while I'm asking, as anyone seen a SINGLE DEVICE 36" rounded floppy cable?

most stores will make one for you, those small ones, not compusa or anything.

if you want to buy one online, www.pccables.com has served much of my cabling needs... removing excess connectors carefully wont damage it

Make sure to get an ATA33 cable instead of an ATA66/100/133 one. They don't work for some reason.

Anyone know where to get a silver braided single device 18" ATA33 cable? :) I want all my cables matching.

^ anyone know where to get these? I might be able to get away with using an 18"

BTW, thanks for the info on what kind of cable needs to be used, lupohki!

[edit] this site here is the only cable I've been able to find that claims ATA33 compatibility that is rounded! The only silver braided cable they have goes down to ATA66. Hrmmm...

here's another possibility
18" version

Anyone else have suggestions? With so many of us having SBLive's and wanting to have rounded cables, I'm surprised this hasn't come up yet ;)

with my old SB Live platinum i just rounded the cable myself.

of course i didn't have the professional look of a store bought cable, but i covered it with black loom and some electrical tape and it suited me.

I have successfully rounded a LiveDrive cable. It is essentially an IDE cable from what I remember - BUT - I do believe that one of the two connectors is reversed. By making sure pin 1 goes to pin 1 you should be fine. I did fry a cable in making it - not the card the cable. Not such a big deal.
Just round your own, it's simple & cheap.

As for 36" rounded floppy cable. I personally can help you there. I've been making custom rounded floppies for a while & seeing as how I bought a roll of cable, length isn't a problem. PM if interested.

Excellent, thanks for the extra info, joinT. It's good to know it IS possible (for sure) using an IDE cable. And I may just have to snag a custom floppy cable from ya :)
