Pre-Burn DVD Test?

Lately, I've hit a rash of bad Sony DVD+R's ... data verification with Nero fails quite a bit. I was wondering if there are any programs out there that can test if a DVD is good or bad prior to burning it.

Also, if there is nothing like that, what is the best tool to test a DVD after the burn, something that scans for read-errors and stuff like that so you know if the burn/dvd was good.
