Pre-built vendor recommendations?

I've decided not to get a Dell for once, and even to go AMD 64 instead of Intel. I was seriously considering building a machine from parts from NewEgg, but then I started browsing CyberPowerPC.com, and it appears that I can get almost exactly the same computer for a bit less and assembled by someone else to boot.

About the only thing that bothers me about CyberPowerPC is that their selection of socket 754 motherboards is kind of limited. I have a friend who swears up and down that the NVidia nForce3 250 chipset is the way to go, and CyberPower doesn't offer that. The best they seem to offer is the ASUS K8V Deluxe, which is K8T800 based.

So, are there reasonably priced pre-built vendors who offer better AMD motherboards? What are the drawbacks, if any, to going with the K8V Deluxe vs. say an MSI K8N Neo Platinum?

bought my last pre-built system from them. its as good as building it yourself,only they're doing it themselves with non-OEM crap and onboard stuff. great prices too.

They're skimping, otherwise it'd cost more than you could build it for. Likely a cheap, loud cd/dvd drive(s), low-end psu, flimsy case with a lot of sharp edges inside, mb without many features/options, high latency ram, etc. etc. etc. Even Alienwares, I hear, have very flimsy cases - and for the price you'd think theirs were solid gold :roll:

ABS owns NewEgg.com, so i have to agree with that, of course, HP has never let me down, just make sure they aren't using integrated graphics, their tech support is great (i don't know what all the $hit about Dells tech support is about, i called while at a friends house once, some New Delhi guy picked up and went on jabbering, at least HP gives you ppl who understand what you say)

I guess if you WANT it to be assembled by someone else, then that would be a plus. For me, building it is part of the satisfaction of ownership (as is cherry-picking the components, right down to the case fans).

For me, building it is part of the satisfaction of ownership (as is cherry-picking the components, right down to the case fans).

I understand the component cherry-picking. It just seems like work to me, with the added bonus of maybe bending a CPU pin. I was an electronics hobbyist in the late 70's early 80's, but the last time I put together a computer was a Heathkit 151 (original 4.77 MHz PC clone).
