Advantages of paying more money for these pre-built computers?

Lets say I had a Alienware Auora DDR comp and a home-built computer with the same exact parts down to the last drop from mobo to CPU all the way to the HS + Fan and thermal grease. If I would benchmark these computers with all sorts of benches from 3DMark to SiSoft, would the Alienware which was about $600-$700 more expensive do better than the other?

These companies like Falcon NW state that they tweak your computer for optimal performance and hand-builds it with percision. What can they tweak that I cannot?

I would like any and all opnions.

Thanks for your time.

No. It's just assembling parts, they're not customizing anything so there is no reason you can't get the same results they do.

Nothing provided you do your research and setup BIOS, OS, etc. correctly. Do a search for Alienware especially, you will find many people saying that it's not worth the money. You will get a good machine but you'll pay a fortune for it.

PipBoy is pretty much right on target. They do not have access to "secret" video cards and such. They use the same stuff that anybody can get. If you know how to tweak your system, there's nothing those guys can build that you can't. Even if you don't tweak your system, you won't get an extra $500 of performance from them.
