I got a mail saying I was pre-approved for a AMEX gold rewards card. I'm kinda skeptic about replying to it. I'm 19 and had credit for a year always pay in full and my income has been decent. Also there is a $90 annual fee for the cc anyway to get out of that? So are the pre-approved mails garenteed or false? I applied for the blue student CC but it didn't list my school on the list so i picked a school near me and i got denied for not belonging to that school. :frown:

Your chances are better being pre-approved than just applying out of the blue.

No way to get out of the annual fee but doesn't this card offer BVG and 5% off @ Dell Small Business?

I usually prefer to apply online, you usually get an instant answer. If they say YES then you're good to go. If they say "your application needs further review, we'll be in touch with you soon." that usually means you've been declined and will be mailed a letter.

Unless you have a business or spend in excess of 30k a year I wouldn't get an Amex with a fee. Amex is awesome, but unless you are leaving something out you don't need them. I would get a MBNA Visa(no annual fee, lets you go over limit, and 12.99 APR). This is Rewards card so you get points for every purchase. Citibank is also good.

It's a great card but just because you're pre-whatever doesn't really mean anything.

I've been shot down many of times after responding to pre-whatever apps.

BVG pricematch to online retailers is over this month I believe, so that basically kills that deal. (this month or next, I know it's soon)
