i'm trying to figure out how the prank was supposed to be funny...

just make him pay for the bomb squad to come by or jail and a felony -> then negotiate it down to a thousand or two and a misdemeanor or community service or some shit

oh and make him explain how the prank was supposed to go down

WTF? you seriously think he was planning a bomb scare with a blow up doll?!?

you have serious issues.

huh? i never said that, the school reacted by calling the the bomb squad and he should pay some of that

i was wondering how finding a box with a blow up doll in the girl's restroom would be funny, more like 'what the hell?'

You must have not been too sexual in high school.

People are so dense. The article says "up to 8 years". Started reading the comments after that article and people are talking as if he's gonna get 8 years. Under the circumstances and considering he has no record, even if this kid is convicted of a felony, he'll get off with probation. More than likely it will get pled down to a lesser offense.

Horseshit. Fern seems to think that high schools fucking well have real time surveillance eyes on their security cameras. That's laugably clueless and wrong.

Yeah, still do.

From every indication in the article it was real time, or close to it.

If you don't think they have resources to watch real time , I'm pretty sure they don't have the resources to have people review all the recordings.

If you're not monitoring your security cameras they aren't good for stopping fights, drug use, or even bombs in schools. Otherwise you're left with what they have at convenience stores, you can't stop the crime (or bomb explosion) but you may have a picture to later help police identify a suspect. Not much in the way of security IMO.

INTENTIONALLY not allowing a clear shot of his face meant that the authorities had no way of knowing who that kid was or WHAT he placed in that bathroom.

-snip-

Looks to me like they did. If not, how the heck did they catch him?

I'm still saying it was done timely, no one noticed tapes over night (what good would that be? The bomb could've gone off already). So, looks like the prudent step would be to go find the student and ask him what he was doing before going all DEFCON1.

In any case, it wasn't a bomb and I don't yet see any indication he tried to make anybody think it was. Their panic doesn't make him guilty of anything.

Really? You don't know, Tyell? You caused your school to be evacuated and a SWAT team to be brought in. You crossed the fucking line, stupe.

I'm officially open for bets that he will not be sentenced to any jail time. Any takers?

The rest is more than appropriate. $8,000 sounds high, but he should have to work to pay off the costs of his "prank", especially since the little darling still thinks he didn't do anything wrong.

Absolutely NOT!

He will not be sentenced to any actual jail time. Care to bet on that? His life won't be ruined. PC, I think you are overreacting.
Pretty much this. He should have placed the blow-up doll in a conspicuous place so that everyone immediately knew it was a gag.

They jail this guy, but don't prosecute the Lower Merion School District of PA for spying and possible child porn because "there was no criminal intent". Disgusting.

Agreed, that's completely disgusting. I don't like this zero tolerance bullshit where a kid can't bring an aspirin or a Midol but a teacher can take her across state lines for an abortion. If anything, we should be harder on those with power and authority.

1. Charge him.
2. Take picture of him peeing his pants crying while his dad looks all pissed off.
3. Post picture to Facebook with a "don't be a dumbass story"
4. Drop charges.

Everyone wins. Sorta.

i have no sympathy for the fucking idiot. what did he think would happen? you do something that looks like a explosive and then you get smacked hard for it? duhhh

it puts the school in a tough spot. they have to punish him. what he did was stupid. jail time may be harsh (doubts he gets any) but fuck really what did he expect?
