Ok, last Friday I picked up my XP2000+, and an additional 256MB PC2700 RAM, plus a new case, and a new 350W PSU. The chip was retail, so it came with AMD's retail HSF combo. What I'm wondering is, given the system specs of:
Athlon XP2000+
512MB PC2700 Kingston RAM
ASUS A7V8X Motherboard
What's my maximum 'safe' overclock? I live in a basement apartment, and ambient room temperature never goes above normal body temperature, and is generally 5-6 C below.
I know the board isn't exactly an overclocker's greatest board, but I'm interested in seeing what kind of OC I can get out of this thing. Believe me, had I had the extra $50 two months ago for the A7N8X, it would be in my machine at the moment.
The system runs very stably with the RAM@2-2-2-6, but won't boot if I bump the FSB to 200. I haven't yet catalogued where it stops booting/where it stops being stable and so forth, but I'm just curious as to what overclock I can generally expect to see, and what can be considered 'safe', given it's only a stock HSF, and I have no budget for a new HSF.
