Practical prime day deals?

Has anyone found deals on practical everyday items that you use? Things under $50? Doesn't even have to be a luxury item.

Best I found was a 4-pack of dishwasher cleaner for $10.

Well, over your limit but…. I wanted an office chair to match the one I already have. Shown at $129. I paid $99 for the one I have. Was going to order then remembered Prime Days. Waited until the next morning. Prime Day price was $99. Saved $30 waiting a few hours.

The test will be to see the price in August. 😊

Can always use camel to see if the price you're paying is worth it comparatively.

SlickDeals front page curates deals for you.

Reportedly Prime Day got off to a very slow start. Not sure what's going on there, but many consumers are tired of enriching the oligarchs while they essentially plunder the federal budget.

Last year I dug around trying to find deals, found nothing worthwhile. I specifically avoid ordering from there in most circumstances now, I did glance at their "recommended for you" Prime Deals this time around, and still nothing worthwhile.

The news article suggested that with Prime days being four days, many consumers were waiting for juicier discounts. I don't think that'll actually happen, but it's understandable.

IMHO Amazon doesn't make much money off of my orders (I could be wrong), so I don't have a strict ban against them. But I have a general rule only to get what I need, and when it's on sale. So far, haven't bought anything but I'm likely to buy something before tomorrow.

Just as an example, the iPad Air looks to be at an all-time low. Most likely will be the same price for BF. Compared to the "basic" iPad, it's a bit pricey but if you need either one now, the price is right. (What's weird is many people just walk into an Apple store and pay full retail, and also get talked into AppleCare+ by the salesperson. 🤣 )

I got a bunch of good prices after the 10-20% back on the store card. Lee wicking shorts, Champion board shorts, Quicksilver flip flops, Bruno Marc slip on walking shoes, Gildan stretch T shirts. Total was under $100 before cash back. Got a good deal on an MSI PSU, BT headphones, a bunch of canned and dry foods.

If you are in the market for a good keypad lock with an app, and with a keyhole, they have a good deal on a schlage model which is highly rated. But that's around 200.

I recently bought an air fryer from Amazon that was Like New. The new price is only $10 more as a Prime discount.

They do shady stuff with prime day. They raise their prices a month before prime day, and then cut them and say it's a big sale. Some guy tracked a bunch of Govee products, and found out that for many of them the prime day sale price was higher than the product had been sold for at some points over the past year.

I use my Amazon Prime Visa to buy groceries, same with my Citi card. I collected over $200 in points, got Fila, New Balance & Sketchers sneakers, a pair for each of us, cat litter, 3 new chemo friendly shirts & 4 bottles of Amazon dish soap…just using my points. Very pleased here

I wanted a small Vornado fan but it was $60 instead of the $40 deals I've seen in the past at slickdeals. I grabbed a basic 12" 3 speed Dreo fan instead. I ordered 3 types of vitamins, olive oil and a 6 movie Terminator blu-ray. I subbed to 3x $0.99 a month streaming services. I also grabbed a 3 in1 stick vac for $20 from Woot. With so much uncertainty surrounding our economy I'd rather wait and see how things shake out.

If you dig deep into Amazon, Chinese brands tend to dominate essential items under $50. But that might not be the case for US consumers.

Chinese brands love Prime Day
:D

I've been eying MREs, just cause. They're currently $77. They were at $68 a couple weeks ago, and I almost bought more, but I have a lot of damned MREs. I'm really just fascinated with how the price moves. It would be interesting to know what's going on there. Highest was $170, and cheapest was $68. The float between $80 & $100 is the most common range. I keep the tab open on my browser, and refresh every so often to see what the price is.

Otherwise, I don't need anything from amazon.

Once again, pretty much a bust for me. Not really much I NEED, and I can't afford the things I WANT...and none of the deals enticed me into spending money I really shouldn't spend on shit I don't NEED.

I’ve been peeking at the Tom’s Hardware site lately. Does the site turn into one giant Amazon ad every Prime Day? Almost every story is about a “deal”.

I have noticed that on a lot of news websites now too. "There are the best coolers you can get on Amazon, These are the 10 best summer grills on Amazon, etc etc."

I feel like I've hit a point in my life where I'm just not buying as much. I have what I need, and I don't randomly look for stuff. And if I'm considering something new, I might sit on it for a little bit to decide if it is the right item at the right price and if I really need it or want it.

I've also pretty much stopped ordering from Amazon in favor of other places because fuck Jeff Bezos. The only thing I ordered recently was a set of curtains for our new apartment, and I only turned to Amazon because we had a gift card someone got my wife for her graduation.

I saw this case of 12 for $40 and thought of you. No idea if it's a good deal or not.

Yea, that's a good price, but on par with the amazon listing I've been tracking...

For reference, I was buying these in the early 2000s for ~$65/case from ebay. From the listing I posted above, I paid $85/case the first time, and then the price crashed. I thought $85 was a little expensive, but it didn't seem out of line with the $65 I was spending 20 years ago. When the price crashed, I bought a bunch more. It recently dropped below $35/case, and I vacillated on buying. The price went up, but I think I've decided to buy more if they get that cheap again.

This belongs in the "first world problems" thread, but Prime Day turned out to be a bust for me.
I had 7 S&S orders for the end of July; some household items, nothing important.

Amazon often packs these monthly bulk orders like crap, they just toss a bunch of items into a large box with some air bags. Overall I've had good luck, but you read some horror stories too.
The entire month's worth was returned to shipper; my best guess is the 5Q jug of motor oil must have popped open and spoiled everything.

When you order XYZ from most online merchants, they will deliver XYZ to you. If there's a shipping delay or problem, it'll take extra time but the usual outcome is to deliver your order. In the case of Amazon logistics, they just automatically refund your money. So in the process, I lost out on some deals and Prime Day offers.

Thanks Bezos!
