I've been hunting around for some time for what I call a "practical case light". This is a small but bright white light that I can put in my case that allows me to see what I'm doing when I'm working on it under my desk. I could take a lamp and put it next on the floor next to the case, but I wanted something that I could:
  1. put inside the case,
  2. that I wouldn't lose - so something that I could attach to the case itself
  3. that is small enough that I'd never notice it when I'm working - preferrably something that I can't even see when I'm working
  4. that plugged into main power (not the power supply) so that I can work with the power supply off
  5. that has a white light
  6. that comes in a sealed case so I don't have to worry about shocks
  7. that's cheap (<$20)
I was at Home Depot tonight buying a lamp for our living room when I noticed this(sorry for the poor picture... had the flash turned off). It's a little thin lamp meant to be used in cabinets as an accent lamp. Here's my case with it installed using a flash picture (so you can see that you can't see it). And here's a picture with it turned on and no flash.

It cost somewhere around $15, came with a switch and double-sided sticky tape, and plugs into a US 120V plug.

For reference, my case is an Inwin Q500. I haven't modded it in any way, and it's not particularly inspiring. The cable mess near the CD's is mostly caused by my Enermax PS which comes with extra long power cables that I'm not sure what to do with.

cool light. My dad uses one to light up his golf display case he built in the living room. I think he got his at HOme Depot too.
